Przasnysz lies on the Węgierka and received town rights in 1427. The town is also a service and tourism center for the Przasnysz region; its historic street plan and religious buildings shape this role. Key features include the Neoclassical town hall, churches from various periods, the railway heritage complex and the city park. Visitors can therefore enjoy historic architecture, religious heritage, parkland and municipal leisure facilities.

Town Hall and Churches from Several Centuries

The Neoclassical town hall stands at the center of the market square and was built at the end of the 18th century. Restoration of the building was completed in 2012. Its construction and restoration mark distinct periods in its history: the town hall combines its Neoclassical origins with a later, completed restoration.

The parish church of the Assumption of Mary is a late Gothic building dating from 1474 to 1485. It is also connected with a biographical story: Saint Stanislaus Kostka was baptized in 1550 in the so-called Kostka Chapel. His parents and brothers are also buried in the church. The building thus brings together late Gothic architecture and a specific connection to the saint’s history.

The parish church also has a completely freestanding, masonry Gothic bell tower dating from the 15th century. It was heightened around the turn of the 17th century. Its construction history can therefore be distinguished chronologically from that of the church.

The monastery complexes further enrich the picture of religious architecture. The church of the Bernardynek monastery complex dates from 1609 to 1616; construction of the monastery was completed in 1615. The church of the Bernardynów monastery complex was built between 1585 and 1588 on the initiative of Paweł Kostka. These different construction periods give the religious architecture in Przasnysz a clear historical context.

Railway Heritage and City Park

The Mławska Kolej Dojazdowa narrow-gauge railway tells another part of the town’s history. It was built during the First World War and initially connected Mława with Przasnysz. The town’s railway heritage complex includes a wooden station building dating from around 1925 and a steel bridge over the Węgierka. Both structures are listed in the register of monuments. The station building and bridge represent different components of the railway infrastructure.

The city park was laid out in the first half of the 19th century and includes an island in the Węgierka. Five oak trees, around 300 years old, stand there and are protected as natural monuments. On July 1, 2026, the town reported the completion of new paths made of natural stone gravel in Tadeusz Kościuszko City Park. The river island, ancient oaks and paths give the park several distinct features: landscape design, protected trees and opportunities for walking.

Museum and Municipal Leisure Facilities

The permanent multimedia exhibition “Złoty wiek Przasnysza” can be visited at the Historical Museum in Przasnysz. It is aimed mainly at children and complements the historic buildings with its own exhibition perspective on Przasnysz. The focus on a specific young audience is an explicit part of the exhibition’s approach.

The sports and leisure center offers a fitness room as well as aerobics rooms with exercise equipment. An infrared sauna is also available. Alongside the historic and natural attractions, the municipal leisure offer thus includes sports facilities.

For trip planning, the highlights are easy to distinguish: the town hall, parish church and monastery complexes represent architectural and religious history; the railway complex and city park offer different themes, from technical heritage to time spent outdoors. The range of attractions makes Przasnysz a comprehensible destination both for those interested in cultural history and for visitors interested in parks and leisure activities.
