Accommodation in Sulechów
Sulechów brings together castle history, local figures and natural monuments with trails of varying lengths. If you are looking for a hotel in Sulechów, you can plan your days around your interests: architecture and local history are among the options, as are nature and longer routes. The highlights below differ in their subject matter and location, either in town or in the surrounding area.
Castle and architectural history
The castle on Aleja Wielkopolska now has a late-classical appearance, with fragments of 18th-century pilaster decoration still visible. Pilasters are flat, column-like elements in wall design that help define a building’s architectural character. A Calvinist chapel opened in the castle rooms in 1701 and was called Kościół Zamkowy (Castle Church). Thus, the same building brings together its late-classical appearance and the history of a chapel dating from the early 18th century.
Local history and the sundial
The small knight figures known as Suleszki draw on local history. They are named after Sulech, with whom the town associates the origin of its name, and depict him as a knight. The sculptures are intended to encourage visitors to learn about the town’s history.
Another attraction is the azimuthal sundial in Sulecha Park on ul. Kusocińskiego. It is considered the largest sundial in Poland. Its granite disc is 350 cm in diameter; lines and hour and half-hour curves make it possible to read the time accurately at any time of year. The sundial was installed on 29 August 2022.
Natural monuments in Sulechów and the surrounding area
In Sulechów, 13 trees and one erratic boulder are designated as natural monuments. Beside the historic water tower grows a white mulberry with a trunk circumference of more than 4 m, described as the thickest in Europe. If the precise designation status matters to you, it is advisable to confirm the details locally.
The Radowice Nature Reserve lies a few kilometres east of Sulechów, in the surrounding area. It extends across the municipalities of Sulechów and Trzebiechów and covers 52 ha. This makes it possible to compare natural monuments in town with a protected area that spans two municipalities.
Trails by length and theme
The 10.5 km Southern Trail runs between Mozów and Kruszyna via Sulechów. The 15 km Szlak Mistrza ołtarza z Gościszowa (Master of the Gościszów Altar Trail) starts in Sulechów. The 41 km Historical Battle Trail starts in Sulechów (Brzezie). The main attractions along the 41 km Red Historical Battle Trail include historic battlefields and natural features. The green Natural Monuments Trail is 44 km long, starts and ends in Sulechów, and is part of the 152 km network of walking and cycling trails in the municipality of Sulechów.
The trails that start in Sulechów or pass through town range from 10.5 to 44 km in length. Their routes also differ: the Southern Trail connects Mozów and Kruszyna, while the green Natural Monuments Trail is a loop that starts and ends in Sulechów. Historic battlefields and natural features provide further thematic highlights.
An educational trail in the surrounding area
In the Klemsko Forest District, a 3.4 km educational forest trail runs from the turn-off from the Sulechów–Poznań national road towards a forester’s lodge on the edge of Klępsk. It is in the surrounding area and complements the trails that pass through Sulechów or start there.
