Radzyń Podlaski: Castle Ensemble, Culture and Routes along the Białka
Accommodation in Radzyń Podlaski
If you are looking for a hotel in Radzyń Podlaski, the city’s highlights can help guide your travel plans: the castle and park ensemble and sacred buildings offer historical points of interest, while the concert series and routes along the Białka add to the picture. Depending on whether you want to focus on architecture, history, music or a bike ride, these places offer different starting points for your stay.
Castle Ensemble and Oranżeria
The castle and park ensemble is located in the eastern part of the city, on a north-facing terrace of the Białka River that was artificially reshaped. Its layout follows the French “entre cour et jardin” scheme: the main building stands between a courtyard of honour and the garden behind it. The spatial arrangement of courtyard, building and garden is a characteristic feature of the ensemble.
The Oranżeria was built around 1760 during the extensive renovation of Eustachy Potocki’s residence. It was designed by Jakub Fontana, with sculptures by Jan Chryzostom Redler. It is considered one of the finest Rococo orangery buildings in Poland. In the 1950s and 1960s, the building was converted for use as a cinema and cultural centre. Since 1996, changing exhibitions have been held in the basement rooms of the “Oranżeria” gallery. It is best to check which exhibition is currently on before your visit.
Chapels, Church and Places of Remembrance
The Chapel of the Guardian Angels was built in the 17th century with financial support from Vice-Chancellor Stanisław Antoni Szczuka. Its hexagonal plan, two storeys and conical roof with a Baroque lantern give the building a clearly articulated form. During the extensive restoration from 2009 to 2011, stucco decorations in the style of the Lublin Renaissance were uncovered. The building’s history, architecture and restoration can be considered as different aspects of the same monument.
The Mniszech epitaph in the Church of the Most Holy Trinity is an outstanding example of Polish funerary art. On 2 February 1767, Ignacy Krasicki, Prince-Bishop of Warmia, officiated there at the marriage of Cecylia Urszula Potocka and Prince Janusz Sanguszko. The epitaph and the recorded wedding represent two distinct historical associations of the church: a monument and a specifically dated event.
The Izba Pamięci “Warszawska 5a” collects, preserves, conserves, makes accessible and disseminates materials commemorating the victims of Soviet and German totalitarianism in the Radzyń Podlaski area and Radzyń County. Its thematic focus broadens the view of the city’s history to include the victims of both regimes.
Music, Events and Routes
The Dni Karola Lipińskiego is an annual classical music concert series. It honours Karol Lipiński, the violin virtuoso and composer born in Radzyń Podlaski. As dates and programmes should be checked each year, it is advisable to consult the latest information for your travel dates. Around September and October, the community of the Zofia Sękowska Special Education Centre, which manages the Chapel of the Guardian Angels, also celebrates the “Dni z Aniołami”.
The “Bulwar nad Białką” tourist cycling route runs along the river and near the listed ensemble of the Parish Church of the Most Holy Trinity. The Doliną Tyśmienicy cycling route covers a different scale: the route description published in 2018 lists a 50 km loop along public roads through Radzyń Podlaski, the Tyśmienica Valley, Czemierniki, Suchowola and Branica, before returning to Radzyń Podlaski. This offers a contrast between a route along the Białka and a longer loop through several places. Markings and road conditions can change; check both before your ride.
A street workout park is located at the reservoir, next to the “Bulwar nad Białką” cycling route. A municipal notice dated 21 August 2026 described it as complete and open for use; it is free for residents. As the facilities may change, check their current condition before visiting.
