Jasionka Druga’s local historical character is brought to life by two houses dating from the early 20th century. For more architectural, cultural and nature-related themes, look to the wider Parczew travel area and the broader region. This makes it possible to distinguish the local historic houses from regional visitor ideas.

Historic Houses in Jasionka Druga

At Jasionka Druga 147, there is a former school building dating from the first quarter of the 20th century, listed in the voivodeship’s register of historic monuments. The house at Jasionka Druga 171 also dates from this period and is entered in the voivodeship’s register of historic monuments. Both buildings share the same period of construction and listed status; the former school use gives the building at number 147 its own historical significance. Together, they form a clear local focus for travelers interested in architectural history.

Parczew: City History and Architecture

In the wider travel destination of Parczew, history reaches further back. The settlement, formerly called Parczów, is documented as early as the 13th century. Parczew was granted town rights by Władysław Jagiełło in 1401; in 1413, the town was designated in Horodle as a venue for Polish-Lithuanian meetings and Sejms. The historic townscape includes a medieval layout established under Magdeburg law, as well as traces of underground settlements and archaeological layers revealing the town’s development.

The St. John the Baptist church complex is listed in the historic monuments register and inventory. The Neo-Gothic Minor Basilica, the Sanctuary of Our Lady Queen of Families in the Roman Catholic Parish of St. John the Baptist, has two distinctive towers and five wooden altars. Pope John Paul II granted the church the status of a Minor Basilica in 1989. The interior features polychrome decoration and stained glass: one window depicts St. Anthony and dates from 1939, while another, depicting the Assumption of Mary, dates from 1937.

Other buildings mark different periods. The wooden bell tower was built in 1675 and is considered the oldest surviving historic building in the town. The market hall at Plac Wolności was built in 1938 to a design by Artur Bernhardt. In Parczew, the medieval town layout, ecclesiastical architectural history and 20th-century architecture can thus be explored as distinct themes.

Jewish History and Remembrance

The history of Parczew also includes the former synagogue and the mikveh. The synagogue, a Jewish house of prayer, was built in an eclectic style by the Jewish community after 1873. The mikveh was a Jewish ritual bath; it was built in the early 20th century and features elements of modernist architecture. The former Jewish cemetery was established around 1566, destroyed during the Second World War, and now serves as a park with a memorial to the victims of the Second World War.

Educational Trails and Nature in the Region

The approximately 3.3-kilometer Bobrówka educational trail runs through the Parczew forests, in the area around the travel destination. It forms a loop around the Gościniec mill pond and passes through various forest habitats, by a pond and along the meanders of the Bobrówka River. There is a large parking lot at the starting point, along with a wooden shelter for about 80 people and a fire pit. Before your visit, check whether these facilities are still available as described.

Poleski National Park offers a different natural landscape in the wider region. Its setting on the Łęczyńsko-Włodawska Plain includes numerous marshes, peat bogs and karst lakes, as well as natural forest complexes rich in flora and fauna. The park has 114 kilometers of trails. These include the nature trails “Perehod,” “Obóz powstańczy,” “Czahary,” “Dąb Dominik” and “Spławy,” the “Mietiułka” cycling trail, and the EKO-SZLAK “URSZULIN-PEREHOD” cycling route. The park’s education centers also have two short trails for younger children: “Żółwik” and “Tropem przyrody.”
