Brzeg Dolny combines an expansive park and palace history with cycling and kayaking connections to the Oder. If you are looking for a hotel in Brzeg Dolny, these different themes can help you decide whether culture, architectural history or activities along the river should shape your trip.

Park and Palace History

The 67-hectare park is laid out in the English style and modelled on the park in Wörlitz near Dessau. The palace acquired its present Neoclassical appearance through a comprehensive renovation by Carl Gotthard Langhans. The park and palace thus offer two different ways to explore the town’s history: the designed landscape and a building whose present appearance is owed to Langhans.

The historic park complex included recreational facilities designed by Langhans: a bathing pavilion, a tea house, a wine tavern, a wine house, a mill and a forester’s house. The different types of buildings show how varied the historic complex was.

Chapels and Cultural Sites

The Boromeusz Sisters’ monastery complex includes a courtyard area called Jadwiga Garden. A sculpture of Saint Hedwig stands there. St. Hedwig’s Chapel is considered one of the most important monuments in Brzeg Dolny. It is associated with a legend about a stone said to have borne the footprint of Saint Hedwig.

Another landmark in the town’s history is the former parish church of St. Hedwig. It was built in 1665 and now serves as a cemetery chapel. If you are interested in religious and historical heritage, you will encounter different forms here: a monastery courtyard with a sculpture, a chapel with a legendary tradition, and a former parish church building now serving as a cemetery chapel.

Ropes Course and Cycling Routes

The ropes course was set up in 2010 as a place for active recreation and comprises five courses. “Inicjacja” reaches a height of up to 1 m, has 3 stations and is intended for all participants. “Rokitek” runs at a height of 2–3 m, with 9 stations, and is aimed at children up to the fourth grade of primary school. “Boruta” offers 10 stations at a height of 3–4 m, “Czort” has 9 stations at 4–5 m, and “Rokiś” has 6 stations at 6–9 m; these three courses are intended for young people and adults. The information therefore clearly distinguishes between height, number of stations and target group. Check whether the ropes course is open before visiting.

Brzeg Dolny is on the Oder Cycle Route. The road bridge over the Oder provides access to routes on both riverbanks. One route connected to the Oder Cycle Route runs from Brzeg Dolny over the bridge towards Miękinia. In the opposite direction, it runs via Radecz and Godzięcin towards Żmigród. Brzeg Dolny is also a junction on the Oder Trail in the Kraina Łęgów Odrzańskich network, where various hiking trails and transport routes meet.

Public Transport and Kayaking

Brzeg Dolny is included in the “Kolej na Kajaki” and “Kolej na Rowery” offers. They combine public transport with kayaking or cycling tours on the Oder Cycle Route. For specific planning, check timetables and operating arrangements, as these may change.

A quest takes you on foot between the Oder riverbank and the railway station; a kayaking trip can begin or end in connection with this route. Kayaking trips on the Oder have been organised on the stretches from Wrocław to Brzeg Dolny and from Brzeg Dolny to Malczyce. As seasonal operations may vary, check whether a trip is being offered before making specific plans.
