Bystrzyca Górna is a chain village stretching along the Bystrzyca River. The river, the village layout and historic buildings offer different points of interest: the Gothic Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the palace and manor buildings from the early 19th century, and the “Z nurtem Bystrzycy” quest. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Bystrzyca Górna, you can base your choice on whether you are particularly interested in local history, river-related topics or the routes described here.

River and Village Layout

Bystrzyca Górna stretches along the Bystrzyca River as a chain village. The river is also at the heart of the “Z nurtem Bystrzycy” quest, which provides information about its character, length and tributaries, as well as cycles and water-engineering structures. The quest starts in the car park by the sports field opposite the community hall. It is free, but can only be downloaded after registration. This lets you learn about the river both as a defining feature of the village layout and through the quest’s topics.

Church and Architectural History

The Gothic Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built around the middle of the 14th century and was first mentioned in 1376. These are two distinct historical details: the first refers to the construction period, the second to its first mention. An onion dome was added to the medieval tower in 1617. The church was also remodelled in 1617 and later, in 1854. The building thus reflects its medieval origins as well as later changes: the year 1617 refers both to the onion dome and to a remodelling, while 1854 marks a further remodelling.

Palace and Manor Buildings

The palace and manor buildings from the early 19th century are located in the central part of Bystrzyca Górna. They add another historical layer to the church’s older architectural history. If you are interested in historic architecture, you can distinguish between two different points of interest: the Gothic church with its medieval origins and the ensemble of buildings from the early 19th century. Their location in the central part of the village also gives you a clear point of reference within Bystrzyca Górna.

Mine Adit and Routes

Another named site is the very well-preserved adit beneath the railway line, opposite the state children’s home. It is known as the Marie-Agnes mine. Do not enter unsafe mine workings.

Route No. 2b, “Co za widok!!!”, passes through Bystrzyca Górna, crosses the Bystrzyca River there via a footbridge, and then follows the river towards Burkatów. A different time estimate applies to the Pieszyce Mostek – Bystrzyca Górna, PKS route: it is 11 hours 30 minutes; in the opposite direction, 11 hours 45 minutes is given. The 15-minute difference makes clear that the time should match the planned direction. Compare these figures separately rather than treating them as the same guideline.
