Zduńska Wola: Hotels for culture and industrial history
Accommodation in Zduńska Wola
You can focus on different aspects during a stay in Zduńska Wola: Park Miejski, a green space in the heart of the city; the memory of Maksymilian Kolbe; and the traces of industrial development. These offer biographical, industrial and landscape perspectives on the city. You can give each of these themes different weight when planning your trip.
Green space and city history
Park Miejski is a green space of almost nine hectares in the heart of Zduńska Wola. It was established around the turn of the 20th century as Zenon Anstadt’s private garden. Its origins give this central green space a second point of reference: alongside its size, its beginnings as a private garden are also part of its context. This sets the park apart from the industrial sites that tell other chapters of the city’s history.
Traces of industrial development
The Szlak Fabryczny (Factory Trail) includes twelve buildings that once housed the city’s largest factories; the buildings are marked with information boards. The themed trail focuses on specific sites of former production. Its main focus is the factory buildings and their industrial past.
Manufaktura Złotnickiego is one of the oldest manufactories in Zduńska Wola and is associated with the industrial activity of Stefan Złotnicki, the city’s founder. Here, industrial history connects with a figure from the city’s founding. Fabryka Józefa Sznajdra has a different profile: Oskar Sznajder founded it in 1893, initially as a small cotton weaving mill. The manufactory is linked to the city founder’s activity, while the factory’s founding date and initial production are specified.
Museums: collections and biographical history
Muzeum Historii Miasta Zduńska Wola (Museum of the History of the City of Zduńska Wola) mainly collects archival materials relating to the city’s industrial and craft development in the 19th century. The museum has more than 10,000 exhibits. Its focus on archival materials offers a collection-based approach to the city’s history and complements the perspective on the former factory buildings.
Muzeum Dom Urodzenia św. Maksymiliana Kolbego (Museum in the Birthplace of St. Maximilian Kolbe) offers a biographical perspective. It is located in the house where Maksymilian Kolbe was born; the building is a restored weaver’s house. The exhibition is spread across five rooms. Thus, the memory of Kolbe’s birthplace and the building’s context as a weaver’s house come together in one place. By comparison, the city museum explores the industrial and craft development of the 19th century through archival materials; the Kolbe museum presents its exhibition in the restored house where he was born.
