If you are looking for a hotel in Pleśna, the local cycling routes give you a concrete sense of the place. The two routes differ considerably in length and course. For further travel planning, it is also worth exploring the municipality of Pleśna, with its other viewpoints and memorial sites in named localities. You can choose between a ride through Pleśna and a broader view of the municipality’s landscape and history.

Cycling in Pleśna

The “BATYLOWA” cycling route is 1.5 km long. It runs from the Pleśna market square via Pleśna-Batylowa and back to the market square. The “GONDÓWKA” route is 4 km long and runs from the Pleśna cemetery via Pleśna-Gondówka to Pleśna-Równie. The routes therefore differ by 2.5 km—a useful point of reference when planning your time for a bike ride.

The landscape also offers a different experience: the “GONDÓWKA” route crosses varied, hilly terrain and runs mainly along paved roads. At its highest point is a viewpoint overlooking Pleśna. The route’s length and this viewpoint give the longer route a different character from the shorter “BATYLOWA,” whose described course returns to the market square.

Views and landscape in the municipality of Pleśna

Another viewpoint is on Gródek Hill in Lichwin. The Austrian Military Cemetery No. 185 is located there at an altitude of 436 m. Artillery craters and unfilled trenches remain at the cemetery. They are intended to give visitors an idea of the shape of the battlefield and the intensity of the fighting for the hill. From Gródek, you can see, among other things, the Ciężkowice Foothills and peaks of the Low Beskids and Sącz Beskids; visibility may depend on conditions.

Wał also offers a broader view of the municipality’s ridges: the summit is part of the Rożnów Foothills and, at 523 m, is the highest elevation in the municipality of Pleśna. Another landmark is the wooden observation tower in Dąbrówka Szczepanowska. It is 16 m high and has five levels with viewing terraces. These landscape features complement the view of Pleśna directly associated with the “GONDÓWKA” route.

The quarry in Lichwin is one of the area’s geological points of interest. Fossils dating back approximately 66 million years were discovered there during the extraction of raw materials. These include petrified tree trunks; their origin has not been definitively established. The discovery adds a long history of the Earth to the picture of the municipality, while Wał and Gródek showcase its landscape of ridges, hills and views.

Memorial sites and architecture

The municipality of Pleśna preserves several memorial sites with different historical associations. Military Cemetery No. 171 in Łowczówek is one of the largest cemeteries of the Polish Legions. Patriotic commemorations are held at the Legionnaires’ Cemetery every year on the first Sunday before 11 November. They mark the anniversaries of the restoration of Polish independence and the Battle of Łowczówek, fought from 22 to 25 December 1914. Dates and programmes may vary; if you are planning your trip around a commemoration, check the details for the relevant year.

Another historic site is Military Cemetery No. 192 in Lubinka, an Austrian First World War burial site designed by Gustav Rossmann. In Lichwin, the Centrum Pamięci Narodowej commemorates the victims of the First and Second World Wars. The palace in Janowice was built in the 19th century in the English Neo-Gothic style. Together, these sites offer different ways to explore the municipality’s history—from war graves and remembrance to historic architecture.

More activities in the municipality

At the RELAKS Sports and Recreation Centre in Łowczówek, you can play ball games, work out and go for walks, for example. Since the facilities on offer may change, it is advisable to check the current arrangements before making specific plans. The event programme at the Centrum Produktu Lokalnego includes workshops, seminars, training sessions, courses, conferences, tastings and exhibitions. Check in advance which events coincide with your trip.

A local hiking trail marked with blue and yellow dots leads to Diabli Kamień and starts at the “Chata pod Wałem” agritourism farm. It is important to check the current trail conditions before setting out. This makes it easy to choose activities around Pleśna according to your interests: the two cycling routes pass through the locality, while views, remembrance, geology and other leisure options highlight different aspects of the municipality.
