Żegiestów: Trails, the Poprad and Churches
Accommodation in Żegiestów
Żegiestów offers several reasons to plan a trip: hiking and walking trails, the Poprad and its gorge, and sacred architecture. The walking path to the “Anna” Pump Room, the “Łopata Polska” nature trail and the filial Church of St. Kinga are in Żegiestów-Zdrój. The former Greek Catholic church is in Żegiestów; a ski lift is also one of the attractions there. This distinction helps you include destinations in your stay according to their type and location.
Hiking Trails and Walks
The blue hiking trail leads from Żegiestów-Zdrój over wooded climbs and clearings, through the area around Pusta Wielka and Wyżnie Młaki, to the Bacówka PTTK nad Wierchomlą mountain hostel. If you plan this hike, consider how you will get back as well as the route itself. Before setting out, check trail conditions and transport options for the return journey.
For a shorter walk, a path about half a kilometre long leads through the spa district of Żegiestów-Zdrój to the “Anna” Pump Room. The approximate length is a useful guide when adding the route to your daily plans. If the pump room itself is your destination, check access before your visit.
The “Łopata Polska” nature trail runs along the riverbank in Żegiestów-Zdrój and combines walking with nature education and outdoor recreation. Unlike the route to the pump room, this trail focuses not only on walking but also on nature education. Check local trail conditions before setting out.
The Poprad: Scenery and Activities
In the Żegiestów-Zdrój area, the Poprad forms a gorge and is also a border river between Poland and Slovakia. The gorge and the border location offer two different perspectives on the river. You can go canoeing or take a raft trip on the Poprad in this area. If you are planning a trip, check current availability in advance.
Sacred Architecture
The former Greek Catholic Church of St. Anne and St. Michael the Archangel in Żegiestów was built between 1917 and 1925. The stone-and-brick masonry building has a cruciform plan, a nave and two sacristy annexes. For architecture enthusiasts, its construction period, materials and layout are as noteworthy as its religious tradition.
The filial Church of St. Kinga, belonging to the parish in Żegiestów, is also located in the spa district of Żegiestów-Zdrój. The two churches represent different religious affiliations: one is the former Greek Catholic church, while the other is a filial church of the Żegiestów parish.
Ski Lift for Winter Planning
A ski lift is also one of Żegiestów’s attractions. If you are planning to use it on a specific date, check in advance whether it will be operating and accessible then.
