Krynica-Zdrój: Museums, Music and Skiing
Accommodation in Krynica-Zdrój
Krynica-Zdrój offers cultural attractions, promenade life and skiing. These include the Muzeum Nikifora in the historic wooden villa Romanówka, the Krynicka Orkiestra Zdrojowa and the Pijalnia Główna on the Krynicki Promenade, the Muzeum Zabawek and the Słotwiny Arena ski centre. If you are looking for hotels in Krynica-Zdrój, you can plan your stay around these highlights: should culture, music on the promenade or a choice of ski runs take centre stage?
Romanówka and the route to the Muzeum Nikifora
The Muzeum Nikifora is located in the historic wooden villa Romanówka in the centre of Krynica-Zdrój. Following a conservation restoration from 1992 to 1994, the villa was rebuilt at a new location in the town centre. It is a wooden villa of a type typical of 19th-century spa resorts. The site thus brings together a museum and the history of a specific building: its architecture points to the building type, while the restoration and reconstruction add insight into the villa’s later history.
A walk begins at the Krynicki Deptak by the tourist information office. A seated monument to Nikifor stands along the promenade; about 500 metres farther on, across the Kryniczanka River, the Muzeum Nikifora is housed in the wooden building Romanówka. The distance of about 500 metres refers to the section from the monument to the museum. If you plan to take this route for your visit, check the local signs before setting out.
Music on the promenade
The Krynicka Orkiestra Zdrojowa regularly performs in the concert hall of the Pijalnia Główna. In summer, when the weather is suitable, it also plays in the music pavilion on the promenade near the Pijalnia Główna. If you are planning to attend a concert, it is worth checking the programme, as dates vary. The concert hall is the regular venue; the music pavilion is an additional summer option, weather permitting.
The Pijalnia Główna is located in the centre of the Krynicki Promenade. It is associated with the mineral waters Słotwinka, Jan, Tadeusz, Zdrój Główny and Zuber. If you are planning a tasting, check opening arrangements in advance.
A toy collection spanning a long period
Since 2010, the Muzeum Zabawek has been a branch of the Muzeum Zabawek in Kudowa-Zdrój. More than 6,000 toys are displayed across around 300 square metres; the collection spans the 19th century to the 1990s. This brings together an approximate exhibition area, a collection of more than 6,000 items and a broad time span. In contrast to Romanówka, the focus here is on toys from different periods; there, the Muzeum Nikifora and the history of the historic wooden villa come together.
Ski runs at Słotwiny Arena
The Słotwiny Arena ski centre has nine downhill runs of varying difficulty and three lifts. The different levels of difficulty add another dimension to the number of runs: there are not just nine descents, but runs with varying demands. The three lifts are another specific feature of the centre. If skiing is an important part of your trip, you can consider it a distinct highlight alongside the cultural attractions.
