When looking for a hotel in Ojców, you can plan your trip around the things that interest you there. The area combines archaeological significance and architectural history with rock formations in the Prądnik Valley; it also features a trail through the valley and the natural attractions of the national park. The individual sights have different highlights: some tell stories of historical uses, while others are shaped by their location or natural form.

History and Cultural Heritage

Jaskinia Ciemna (Ojcowska) Cave is considered one of Poland’s most valuable archaeological sites. A new footbridge and information boards have been installed in the so-called Ogrojec in front of the cave. A Neanderthal encampment has also been reconstructed there. This brings two aspects to the fore: the cave as an archaeological site and the reconstruction as a depiction of prehistory.

Ojców Castle dates back to the 13th century. Its origins are linked to King Casimir the Great’s fortification works in the second half of the 14th century; it was expanded by him during this period. The castle was badly damaged during the Swedish Deluge and restored in 1660. Today, it is a ruin and a medieval landmark of the area.

The “Na Wodzie” Chapel is dedicated to Saint Joseph the Craftsman (Worker). It was established in 1901 in a former spa bathhouse. Two uses can be distinguished in this building: its former use as a bathhouse and its later conversion into a chapel. The chapel therefore represents a different historical context from the medieval castle.

Rock Formations in the Prądnik Valley

Brama Krakowska is one of the rock gates in Ojców National Park. It lies in the Prądnik Valley and marks the end of the Wąwóz za Krakowską Bramą gorge where it meets the valley. Its position connects a rock gate, the valley and the exit of a particular gorge.

Jonaszówka offers a different perspective on the landscape: the rock is 20 metres high and lies in the Prądnik Valley in Ojców National Park. At its summit, there is a viewpoint overlooking Ojców and the surrounding area. While Brama Krakowska is described by its position at the gorge exit, Jonaszówka is distinguished by its height and viewpoint.

At Źródło Miłości, a smaller detail takes centre stage: water flows into a small basin whose bottom has been carved from the rock in the shape of a heart. Alongside the rock gate and the summit viewpoint, the spring reveals another side of the landscape—shaped by the form of the basin rather than by an elevated viewpoint.

Hiking Trails and Nature

The blue Szlak Warowni Jurajskich trail follows the red hiking trail through the Prądnik Valley, via Ojców, to Grodzisko and Skała. Before setting out, check the national park’s current visitor notices for any temporary trail changes.

Ogród Ojcowski features endangered species as well as species characteristic of the park’s typical forest communities. These include species from oak-hornbeam forests, meadows and xerothermic grasslands. The display therefore includes both endangered species and species characteristic of different habitats.

The Ojców National Park Nature Exhibition presented information about the park’s geology, prehistory, animal life and plant life. Its scope was broader than that of a single archaeological site: it covered geology as well as history, animal life and plant life. These different themes can help you discover Ojców according to your interests in culture, landscapes and nature.
