Lipiny: School History and Chapel

If you would like to give your trip a cultural and historical focus, the local topics offer two different perspectives: the development of school construction and a specific building dating from 1918. A chapel from that year is located at Lipiny 71. The school’s history ranges from efforts to build a school around 1920 to a new building, construction of which began in 1959 and was completed in 1960. This distinguishes a single dated building from several developments relating to the school. This distinction is helpful when choosing a destination: Lipiny can be explored not only through a single building, but also through different episodes in the history of school construction.

School Construction in Several Episodes

Around 1920, the village of Lipiny began making efforts to build a school. According to the school’s history, a school building was purchased in Smyków and then transported to Lipiny. Construction of a new school began on 14 July 1959 as part of the “1,000 Schools for the Millennium” campaign; it was completed in December 1960. The comparison of dates shows early efforts around 1920 and a later, dated new building. The purchase and transport of a school building was another specific development. Together, these different steps offer insight into Lipiny’s school construction history without reducing it to a single date. Lipiny is also home to a public primary school described as a “tysiąclatka.”

The Chapel and Cultural Venues

The chapel is a clearly dated landmark in Lipiny’s local history: it is located at Lipiny 71 and dates from 1918. This specific building stands alongside the several episodes of school construction, which took place at different times. If, when planning your trip, you would rather focus on a building with a definite year than on a longer development, the chapel is the more direct point of interest.

Dąbrowa Tarnowska offers a separate cultural context. The All Saints’ Church is on the Małopolska Voivodeship Wooden Architecture Route and is a venue for classical music concerts. Since 2012, the Ośrodek Spotkania Kultur has been housed in the restored synagogue. The institution organizes concerts, performances and lectures, and offers history and regional studies classes as well as temporary exhibitions. The two cultural venues have different focuses: the church brings together the Wooden Architecture Route and classical music, while the Ośrodek offers a broader program of events, classes and exhibitions. For choosing a theme, this is the difference between a church venue with music events and an institution offering events and educational activities.

Cycling Route and Public Transport

A past cycling race offers another way to discover the places mentioned. The 32-kilometre Tour de Powiśle Dąbrowskie cycling route passed through Dąbrowa Tarnowska, Gruszów, Nieczajna Dolna, Nieczajna Górna, Luszowice and Lipiny before returning to Dąbrowa Tarnowska. Lipiny was therefore on the race route, while Dąbrowa Tarnowska was where the route returned. This sporting connection complements the cultural themes with an event route from the past.

There are public transport stops in Lipiny along county road 1323K between Czarkówka, Radgoszcz, Luszowice and Lipiny. If you plan to use public transport, check the latest stop information from the relevant road authority before travelling.
