Złotoria: Rafting, Castle and Yellow Route 2
Accommodation in Złotoria
Złotoria brings together local memorials, a historic event and a clearly described route. The mural covers 120 m²; the Flisak sculpture stands at Plac Flisaka, and Yellow Route 2 leads from Lubicz Dolny to the ruins of Kazimierz Wielki’s castle. When planning your trip, it helps to consider these topics separately: the history links specific events to the ruins, the sculpture represents rafting, while the route provides guidance through specific stops and distances.
Rafting and local history
The mural in Złotoria covers an area of 120 m². At Plac Flisaka, at the village entrance, an information board tells the history of the place. The same square has a fish-shaped carved bench and seating for walkers and people using the cycle path. Złotoria’s symbol at Plac Flisaka, the Flisak sculpture, was officially unveiled on September 15, 2013. It commemorates the centuries-old tradition of rafting and the difficult work of the raftsmen. The square therefore brings together the general history of the place and a specific memorial to the work of the raftsmen.
The meeting near the castle ruins
The ruins of Kazimierz Wielki’s castle are linked to a specific event. In May 1411, Jagiełło, his brother, the Grand Duke of Lithuania Vytautas, and Grand Master Heinrich von Plauen met near the ruins. The participants exchanged documents that had already been sealed, completing the signing of the First Peace of Thorn. The May 1411 meeting and the centuries-old tradition of rafting thus represent two distinct chapters in the history of the place.
Yellow Route 2: route and distances
Yellow Route 2 is 7 km long and leads from Lubicz Dolny to the ruins of Kazimierz Wielki’s castle in Złotoria. Along the way, it crosses the historic wooden bridge over the Drwęca and continues to St. Adalbert’s Church. From there, it follows an unpaved path along the Drwęca for about 1,000 m to the ruins. The distances refer to different sections: 7 km is the distance from Lubicz Dolny to the ruins, while around 1,000 m is the distance from the church to the destination. This distinction helps you understand that the section from the church is part of the route. As trail conditions can change, it is a good idea to check them before planning your trip.
Leisure and activity
The family recreation and leisure park in Złotoria invites visitors to walk, play and get active, and provides a place to meet. This makes it different from Route 2: there, the focus is on the route, its length and destination; here, it is on several ways to spend your leisure time. When planning, if you are weighing a set route against a place for relaxation, play and spending time together, these represent two distinct options in Złotoria.
