Pakość: Calvary, Churches and the Noteć
Accommodation in Pakość
Pakość combines religious architectural history with a connection to water and outdoor activities. When planning your trip, you can choose from different points of interest: the Pakoska Calvary, churches and a monastery, as well as the Noteć as part of a tourist water route. If you are looking for a hotel in Pakość, you can first consider whether sacred architecture or water sports is more important to your choice. The “Ku Kaczym Dołom” hiking and cycling trail adds a route spanning several municipalities to these options.
Calvary and Churches in Pakość
The Pakoska Calvary is also known as the Jerusalem of Kuyavia and comprises 24 chapels and the Church of the Crucifixion. The combination of chapels and church gives a sense of the Calvary’s scale; its alternate name provides another way to refer to this religious landmark. This makes it possible to focus your choice on an extensive religious complex.
The Church of Jesus Crucified and Our Lady of Sorrows has its own architectural history. It was initially a wooden rotunda; after 1661, it was built of stone with a donation from Marcin Umiński. The transition from wood to stone marks two distinct construction phases. On September 14, 1691, Wojciech Stamowski, Bishop of Włocławek, consecrated the church. The design, change of material and year of consecration provide different points of reference in its history: the original structure was followed by the stone building, and later came its consecration. A rotunda is a circular building; the early church was therefore round and made of wood.
The Church of St. Bonaventure and its associated monastery are located within the walls of a former castle, built in 1325–1330. The dates refer to the castle. The Chapel of Our Lady of Pakość is located in the former gate tower. Its location offers a different architectural reference from the church and monastery within the castle walls: here, the focus is on a single part of the building, the gate tower.
The Noteć and Routes in the Municipality
The Noteć is part of the Pętla Wielkopolska, a tourist water route for sailors, motorboat users and kayakers. The river is thus associated with several types of water sports. The Noteć is no longer as important for freight transport as it once was. These descriptions distinguish its tourist appeal from its former role in freight transport.
The “Ku Kaczym Dołom” hiking and cycling trail runs through the municipalities of Dąbrowa, Pakość and Barcin. Unlike the Noteć, this trail focuses on hiking and cycling; the river is the point of reference for water sports. If you prefer one of these types of activities when planning your trip, the different kinds of routes can help you decide which aspect of Pakość interests you most.
