Borówno: Water Sports, Cycling Route and History
Accommodation in Borówno
The training and recreation centre of WOPR Województwa Kujawsko-Pomorskiego is located in Borówno, in a forest by the lake. Water activities, a cycling route and historic sites give a stay a range of different focuses. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first decide whether you would rather spend your time by the lake, cycling, or exploring nature and local history. Some of the places mentioned are in Borówno itself, while others are in the surrounding area.
Water activities on Lake Borówno
The WOPR centre has “Garbus” pedal boats, kayaks and SUP boards for hire. If you have a particular piece of equipment in mind, check its availability in advance, as the range of rental equipment may change. The lake’s bathing area has 100 metres of shoreline and is designated as a supervised bathing area. The operator gives the water quality of Lake Borówno a Class I rating. The length of the shoreline, the bathing area designation and the water quality describe different aspects of the lake. Check the current conditions at the bathing area before your visit.
Cycling route, hike and triathlon
The “Szlakiem zabytków i krajobrazów Gminy Dobrcz” cycling route is about 37.5 kilometres long and passes through Borówno. Its approximate length gives you a guide for planning a bike ride without making the route seem like a short loop. On a PTTK hike, the route started at the Borówno–Plaża stop, followed paths around the lake and went along the streets of Borówno. The cycling route and the described hiking route therefore differ both in length and type.
The Triathlon Poland also uses the lake as part of the race course: the swimming leg takes place on Lake Borówno. The half-distance race covers two laps, and the full-distance race covers four. The start traditionally takes place at the public “Plaża Borówno” beach, 1 Spacerowa Street. If you want to plan your trip around the triathlon, check the dates for the relevant edition.
Accommodation and food options
The WOPR centre offers a campsite and three pitches for motorhomes. These are camping options; if you are looking for a hotel, you should distinguish between these types of accommodation when planning. The centre also has food outlets offering ice cream, burgers, fries, pancakes, drinks and set meals. Vendors and menus may change. If you have a particular selection in mind, check its availability in advance.
Nature and local history
There is a cemetery in Borówno for victims of Nazi terror during the war years 1939 to 1945. In the surrounding area, there is also a mass grave of victims of German mass executions in 1939, as well as an execution site with its own memorial. These places of remembrance offer a different focus from the leisure activities by the lake and should be considered as destinations in their own right.
The Rezerwat Augustowo nature reserve is also located nearby, protecting an area of wet alder forest. In addition to the lake and activities in Borówno, a protected habitat is therefore another nature-related option. Together, these attractions provide a varied basis for deciding whether you would like to visit Borówno mainly for its water, outdoor activities, or natural and commemorative sites.
