Discover Stanmore Bay and find hotels
Accommodation in Stanmore Bay
Stanmore Bay can be explored through its range of recreational features: Stanmore Bay Park, the Whangaparāoa Path, the landscaping work at D’Oyly Reserve and the Stanmore Bay Pool and Leisure Centre. Depending on your interests, you can focus on outdoor spaces, a walking route or specific usage and seasonal conditions.
Stanmore Bay Park and the beach
Stanmore Bay Park is a large park with sports fields, playgrounds and a skatepark; it also extends to Stanmore Bay Beach. The Hibiscus Coast Association Football Club is based in the park. This brings together different park areas and a named local football club. If you’re considering sports and play facilities as part of your stay, the park offers specific options to explore.
Whangaparāoa Path: route and destination
The 3.0 km Whangaparāoa Path runs from the Whangaparāoa town centre to Stanmore Bay Beach, following the Rata Road walkway. The named starting point and destination set this route apart from the sports and play areas of Stanmore Bay Park. Check local path updates before setting out.
Landscaping and project areas at D’Oyly Reserve
At D’Oyly Reserve, the stream running through the site was returned to a more natural state by daylighting it from an underground pipe; the project was completed in June 2019. It included areas for outdoor learning, cycle paths, walking paths and play spaces. The reserve borders Stanmore Bay School. Both the stream restoration and the paths and spaces for other uses are part of the different aspects of this project. Facilities may change over time; if you’re including these areas in your plans, check for current updates before visiting.
Swimming and sports facilities at the Leisure Centre
Different conditions apply to the various facilities at Stanmore Bay Pool and Leisure Centre. The learn-to-swim pool is for children aged eight and under. The splash pad is seasonal and open only during the summer months, roughly from November/December to March/April; availability varies from one summer season to the next. The age limit applies to the learn-to-swim pool, while the splash pad is subject to seasonal opening dates. The centre also has four badminton courts. As facilities may change, check current availability when planning your visit.
How to weigh up the recreational options when planning your trip
For the Whangaparāoa Path, its length and endpoints are the specific points to bear in mind. Sports and play areas are the main features of the park, while D’Oyly Reserve is known for its stream restoration and project areas. At the Leisure Centre, the conditions for each facility, such as age group or season, are what matter. These differences can help you decide what to focus on during your stay before choosing a hotel.
