Glen Murray combines outdoor activities with local history and cultural connections. These include Thundercross Valley Dirt Bike Park, the horse rides at Smitty's Ridge and Glen Murray War Memorial Hall. Te Poho o Tanikena Marae and the associated Māori reservation add a cultural and community connection to the area's history.

Dirt Biking at Thundercross Valley

Thundercross Valley Dirt Bike Park covers 750 acres of gently rolling hills. Its well-maintained tracks run through working farmland; the park has easy trails and challenging hills for riders of all ages and skill levels.

Thundercross offers lessons for beginners and more experienced riders, including sessions on your own motorcycle. Advanced coaching is also available for riders who want to improve their skills. The coaches teach participants to ride a motorcycle independently, regardless of age or fitness level. No motorcycle licence or prior experience is required to ride in the park. The park has 18 rental motorcycles with engine capacities ranging from 50 to 300 cc. Operating details, participation requirements, coaching options and availability may change, so check the latest information before your visit.

Horse Riding and Preparation

At Smitty's Ridge, horse rides take you through hilly terrain. Before the ride, participants receive a horse-riding safety briefing and are assigned a suitable horse. Rides must be booked, and closed-toe shoes or boots are required. Check these requirements with the provider again before travelling, as visitor information may change.

The preparations are therefore clearly different: at the dirt bike park, the focus is on riding ability and motorcycle options, while at Smitty's Ridge it is on booking, a safety briefing and closed-toe shoes.
