Païta brings together coastal spots and islands, horseback rides, a zipline course, regional cuisine and the Fête du Bœuf. If you’re looking for hotels in Paita, these different experiences can help you decide which themes interest you during your stay. From beaches and snorkeling areas to classes and events, there are various ways to shape your travel plans.

Coast, Lagoon and Islands

Îlot M'Bo lies in the lagoon of Païta. Its varied underwater landscapes are well suited to snorkeling. Îlot Ange offers a white sand beach, as well as areas for swimming and snorkeling. The two islands therefore offer different ways to spend time in or by the water.

Baie de Toro is a beach south of Païta with an area equipped for picnics. The wreck of the German freighter Mélanesia also lies there: the ship was launched in 1955 and has been on the coast of New Caledonia since 1981. Îlot Ronde, also known as Grand Pandanus, is one of the well-known islands used by Païta residents.

To reach Îlot M'Bo or Îlot Ange, you can contact local water taxi operators. As transport arrangements may change, it is advisable to confirm the details before your trip.

Horseback Rides, Ziplines and Walks

At La Belle Verte Canopy Tours in Païta, near Mont Mou, the offering includes an approximately 1.2-kilometer zipline course with four stages. This is followed by a roughly 600-meter walk through the forest. Reservations are required. A shuttle from Nouméa can also be booked; confirm current operating details in advance.

There are two named horseback riding options in Païta. Centre équestre de Païta offers rides for families and friends, as well as riding lessons ranging from beginner to advanced courses. Ranch Railway Station offers horseback rides in the center of Païta. If riding lessons interest you, they are available at Centre équestre; Ranch Railway Station is associated with horseback rides.

In the Tontouta Valley, you can take walks along the river. The valley also gives more athletic visitors access to the Mont Humboldt massif, New Caledonia’s second-highest mountain. The walk and the massif offer different ways to experience a stay in the valley.

Atelier Né d'argile offers pottery and ceramics classes in Païta. If you’re interested in a class, contact them directly to confirm the current arrangements.

Fête du Bœuf and Regional Produce

The Fête du Bœuf is a recurring event rooted in Païta’s agricultural tradition and has been documented since 1994. The program planned for the 28th edition, scheduled for October 18, 2026, included a barbecue competition, veal on a spit, a wide range of food available on site, and a tasting of animelles. These program items refer to the 2026 edition; check the relevant program for future dates.

The menu at Karikaté Beach – La Table d'Hôte also offers a glimpse of local produce: it uses, among other things, honey, mandarins, fresh eggs and other farm products. Groups of ten or more can arrange a tailored brunch or meal there, for example for birthdays, team building or a get-together. Advance reservations are required.
