Vomo is an island for travelers looking to combine trails through mountainous terrain, beaches, and reef activities. Vomo Island covers 255 acres and can be explored by guests; there is only one resort on the island. Almost two-thirds of the island is mountainous. Several trails lead to the summits of Mount Vomo, while the beaches stretch for about five kilometers around the island. These different options provide a clear framework for planning: you can weigh up short climbs, a longer coastal circuit, and activities on the water.

Explore Vomo on Foot

The trail to the summit of Mt Vomo is a short, steep walk of about 15 minutes. Guests are encouraged to make the climb on foot or at a run. If you are planning a longer circuit, a complete loop around Vomo takes about 1 to 1.5 hours. The route passes secluded beaches, rocky outcrops, and beautiful swimming spots. Before setting out, check the local tide and safety information.

Another trail option leads around the base of Mt Vomo to an eastern hill at the far end of the island. This route takes about 30 minutes; there is a yoga platform on the hill. The trails described therefore differ in both duration and destination: the summit trail is short and steep, the route to the eastern hill leads to a platform, and the circuit takes in the coastline.

Snorkeling, Diving and the Reef

The offshore outer reef protects the beaches connected to Vomo, making them suitable for swimming and snorkeling during the day. Marine conditions naturally vary. Snorkeling is possible directly from all the beaches. Ocean Play provides masks, snorkels, and fins free of charge to adults and children; if you are planning to use this equipment, check current availability before your visit.

A guided snorkeling safari departs daily at 11 a.m., accommodates up to 12 guests, and visits one of five nearby sites with an Ocean Play guide. Departure times and capacity may change. Free guided snorkeling tours to the Coral Gene Bank are also available: expert guides explain the importance of coral conservation and life on the reef. The Coral Gene Bank is a stainless-steel installation located 18 feet underwater and extending 60 feet. In February 2025, it housed more than 500 corals.

There are five dive sites around Vomo. The boat ride from the Activities Centre takes 5 to 10 minutes; the average depth of the sites is 12 to 20 meters, and they are considered shallow dives. Dive logistics depend on conditions. VOMO also offers English-language PADI courses. The Open Water certification course includes four days of theory and practical training; course times and fees may change.

On the practical Reef Restoration Dive, participants clean the stainless-steel art sculpture while the team tends to the corals. Participation depends on conditions and availability. In addition to snorkeling, reef observation and guided explanations are available, along with a hands-on restoration dive as a distinct offering.

Culture and Island Activities

An authentic Meke and Lovo evening is held weekly for all guests, usually on Wednesday evenings. Afterwards, VOMO's chefs present a Fijian-inspired buffet featuring local ingredients and authentic island dishes. The weekly program may change. For teenagers aged 10 and older, Club V on Vomo Island offers Fijian cooking classes and weaving demonstrations; these program details may also change.

Handline fishing around Vomo is considered a family experience and a way to introduce children to the joys of fishing. This is distinct from fishing trips departing from Vomo: these may target large pelagic fish year-round and are operated by a third party. Vomo has a strict catch-and-release policy for all non-pelagic species. Charter operations and fishing regulations may change; check the current conditions when planning a trip.

Free water sports include stand-up paddleboards, single and double kayaks, Hobie Cat sailing, and windsurfing. Vomo also has a free 9-hole pitch-and-putt golf course; golf clubs for adults and children are available to borrow free of charge. Equipment availability may change. Those looking to combine exercise on land and water will find a range of activities here, distinct from the trails across the island.

Facilities and Getting There

The air-conditioned gym is in the center of the island, next to the golf course and spa. It is open 24 hours a day and free for all guests to use; facilities and hours may change. The Kids' Village is accessed via a suspension bridge. It includes a playroom, kitchen, media room, playhouse, covered play areas, climbing frames, a BBQ and dining area, a dress-up wardrobe, and craft tables.

Gourmet island picnics with chilled drinks can be prepared and delivered anywhere on Vomo; booking arrangements may change. To get there, Vomo is accessible by a 15-minute helicopter flight or a 40-minute speedboat ride. Transfer times depend on operating conditions. If you are looking for a hotel on Vomo, you can consider the island's distinctive landscape, the trails described, and its broad range of activities as separate factors in your planning.
