Explore Rincón through its surf beaches, natural sites and cultural landmarks. When planning your trip, it may help to first consider whether you are especially interested in surf history, different beach activities or the town’s history. These priorities can give your stay a sense of direction without requiring them all to come together in one place.

Surf beaches and varying conditions

Tres Palmas is one of Rincón’s well-known surf beaches. In bad weather, the waves there are high and dangerous for beginners; therefore, check local surf and safety advisories before surfing. Steps is located in the Tres Palmas Marine Reserve. Steps Beach is suitable for photography, walking and sunbathing; Steps is also considered a spot for outdoor photography.

At 3 Palmas, another activity depends explicitly on conditions: snorkeling is an option when there are no waves. 3 Palmas is not recommended for beginner surfers or swimmers. This sets it apart from beaches with other described uses and makes current wave conditions an important part of your planning.

Playa Domes is located between the lighthouse and the nuclear power plant and is among the beaches most frequently visited by surfers. The beach is used for sunbathing and surfing and is known for its surf competitions. Playa Marías is also associated with surf competitions. However, a competition does not mean that a specific event date is set.

Playa Indicador lies between Playa Marías and Playa Domes. Surfing is discouraged for beginners because of the strong current; check current sea conditions before entering the water. Playa Los Almendros is another option and is recommended for swimmers. Sandy Beach is located in the Puntas Barrio. Location and guidance on surfing and swimming offer different points of reference when choosing a beach.

Black Eagle (Marina) is suitable for swimming and water sports. Swimming is prohibited in the boat ramp area; also observe the conditions posted on site. The activities described therefore differ not only by type, but also by specific restrictions.

Natural sites and practical information

Salto el Ultimo Brinco is located in the Calvache Barrio, in a wooded area without electric lighting. A daytime visit is recommended. Posita Ensenada is known for a pool of water and a swing over part of it. Both places offer a different view of Rincón than the surf beaches; the information invites you to consider natural sites as a separate focus of your trip.

Balneario Municipal offers beach access, restrooms, showers, a promenade, pavilions, children’s entertainment areas and food options. The availability of these facilities may change; check locally before traveling. The passive park at El Faro offers ample parking and a family-friendly setting. Parking information may also change, so confirm it before your visit.

El Balneario in the Pueblo Barrio includes a bohío for events. Playa Indicador, in turn, can be identified by its location between Playa Marías and Playa Domes.

Local history, surf culture and festivals

La Cambija was built in 1872 to store water for the municipal railway that ran through Rincón; it is located in the Pueblo Barrio. The structure thus connects a specific year with an earlier function in the town. The decommissioned nuclear power plant, formerly known as BONUS, is a prominent landmark near Punta Higüera Lighthouse.

The Galería del Surfing is located in Centro Empresarial Ventana al Mar and presents a historical overview of surf legends who were active on Rincón’s beaches. The restored former Escuela de la Cultura, previously known as Juan Ruiz Pedroza, is now a center for art and culture.

Muralla y Túnel de Barrero also connects history with a specific location: Spanish tunnels are situated there in the area of the railway wall in Barrero. The site is suitable for photography and watching the sunset. El Bote de Millán is a tribute by Emiliano (Millán) Altiery to the fishermen and commemorates that Gran Millán was at this location.

The Festival de la Ballena has been held annually in Rincón since 2004, in March. It features crafts, an artistic program and other attractions; the celebration takes place in the parking lot by the lighthouse to honor the passage of the whales. For a specific travel year, check the exact event dates. At the Festival de Juegos Típicos in the Atalaya Barrio in July, visitors learn to make toys and prepare traditional dishes, as well as take part in games. The program also includes music and a play produced and directed by local actors.
