Villa Del Carbón combines a historic town center with local crafts, culture and wooded landscapes. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip here, it helps to distinguish between destinations in the center and places of interest in the surrounding area. This way, you can first decide whether your stay will focus mainly on the townscape and handicrafts or on nature and activities.

Town Center, Cultural Center and Handicrafts

The “Dr. Jorge Jiménez Cantú” Cultural Center is located north of Plaza Hidalgo in the historic center. Cobblestone streets run between squares such as Plaza Hidalgo; old houses with tiled roofs and portals are also part of the townscape. Together, these features give the center a distinctive architectural character.

The Mercado de Artesanías is located at Avenida Vicente Barrera 10 in the Centro neighborhood. Handicrafts from Villa Del Carbón and the surrounding area are sold there. The selection includes wool, leather, clay and ceramic goods, textiles, charro boots, and items made from palm leaf. The market thus brings together a variety of materials and products in one place.

Leatherwork in Villa Del Carbón includes more than shoes and boots: vests, jackets, dresses, wallets, bags and belts are also made. Those interested in handcrafted products will find a wide range of items, from clothing to smaller everyday goods. Visitors to Villa Del Carbón can also enjoy trout and barbacoa.

Culture and Special Events

The open-air theater in Parque Municipal is in the center and is well suited to family afternoons with cultural and artistic activities. If you would like to combine your visit with an event, check the current schedule in advance.

The celebration of the Virgen de la Peña de Francia is associated with December 8 and honors the patron saint of the people of Villa Del Carbón. If you would like to plan your trip around the celebration, find out about the current program in advance.

Wooded Landscapes and Activities in the Surrounding Area

Wooded landscapes define Villa Del Carbón, and ecotourism activities are also part of the destination’s appeal. Nearby is Llano de Lobos, a wooded ecotourism park with two bodies of water, a small waterfall, a camping area and cabins. Activities there include hiking, horseback riding, boating, and riding motorcycles and bicycles. The park is 44 kilometers from the center, making it a separate destination alongside the attractions in town.

To the southwest of Villa Del Carbón, Cerro de la Bufa rises to 3,400 meters above sea level. It is located in a coniferous forest and mountainous terrain. Also to the southwest, about 12 kilometers from town, lies Presa del Llano. The three destinations differ in character: Llano de Lobos combines natural features with recreational activities, Cerro de la Bufa is defined by its elevation and mountain landscape, and Presa del Llano can be identified by its location.
