Cuautitlán Izcalli
Accommodation in Cuautitlán Izcalli
When choosing a destination, two themes offer clear guidance in Cuautitlán Izcalli: the collection at Parque de las Esculturas and the protected nature of Espejo de los Lirios. Both offer different perspectives on the area. If you are planning a hotel stay, you can first decide whether art history or landscape and nature conservation better suit your travel plans.
Sculpture Art at Parque de las Esculturas
Parque de las Esculturas is an open-air museum dedicated to the work of a single sculptor. Its monumental collection comprises 17 works by Mexican sculptor Charlotte Yazbek. The works were originally exhibited in the Mexico Pavilion at the 1964 World's Fair in New York, where they received an honorary award.
The permanent installation in the park took place in 1976 under the artist's own supervision. The two years mark different stages: 1964 represents the exhibition and award in New York, while 1976 marks the permanent installation at Parque de las Esculturas. La Troje, Sala de Exposiciones, is also located in the same park. The open-air museum and the named exhibition hall are therefore two cultural points of interest within the same park.
Protected Landscapes and Bodies of Water
Espejo de los Lirios is a municipal protected natural area and is also part of the state-protected area “Santuario del Agua Laguna de Zumpango.” It covers 487,407.31 square meters. It is considered one of the most important bodies of water in the municipality of Cuautitlán Izcalli and is of ecological and social importance to the population.
Another municipal body of water is Laguna de Axotlán. It lies within the same state-protected area. The 2022–2024 municipal tourism program designated it as an ecotourism site. The points of interest therefore differ: Espejo de los Lirios is notable for its protected status and importance to the municipality, while Axotlán is additionally designated as an ecotourism site.
Further Nature and Cultural Attractions in the Wider Destination
The wider destination of Cuautitlán Izcalli also includes the protected natural area Parque Estatal Santuario del Agua y Forestal Presa Guadalupe. It is located in the municipalities of Cuautitlán Izcalli and Nicolás Romero in the Estado de México. The management plan for Espejo de los Lirios, confirmed in 2025, provides, among other things, for the promotion of ecotourism.
A 2025 municipal report lists an area for a bicycle path at Parque Espejo de los Lirios. If cycling is part of your plans, check the current conditions on site. A municipal report from September 2026 also mentions 10,000 trees planted at Parque Ecológico Pichardo Pagaza and links the initiative to the protection of natural resources and water resources.
The program for the 2026 Izcallense Arte, Queso & Vino Festival is also a dated cultural point of reference. The festival was scheduled for April 10 to 12, with the Explanada Municipal and Parque de las Esculturas named as venues. On April 11, guided tastings of Mexican winery products paired with artisanal regional cheeses were offered in the park. On April 12, traditional grape stomping was included in the program as a family-friendly activity. The 2022–2024 municipal tourism program also cited Calle del Hambre as an example of a gastronomic corridor attracting visitors seeking high-quality food.
