Arandas offers several concrete starting points for planning a trip: religious buildings, plazas, festivals and regional cuisine. If you would like to plan your stay around a particular interest, the places and dates offer different focal points. Churches and buildings bring together architecture and religious history; festivals add seasonal highlights, while food and drink offer another way to experience the local character.

Buildings with religious and architectural history

The Parroquia de Santa María de Guadalupe is a religious building in the Baroque style. It is also associated with Blessed Luis Magaña Servín: his mortal remains rest there. Magaña Servín was from Arandas and died as a martyr in 1928. Architecture and religious remembrance thus come together in a specific place.

The Puente de Guadalupe has a different architectural character and is one of the city's sights. Its small towers and brick arches define the description of the bridge. The Parroquia de San José Obrero, meanwhile, is a Neo-Gothic building dating from 1879. The Campana Reina del Silencio is displayed in its atrium. It weighs 15 tons and has a diameter of 3 meters—two specific measurements that make this building and its exhibit especially vivid.

Plazas and a nearby museum

Plaza de Armas is one of the sights in central Arandas. Its features include a kiosk and arcades. Plaza Principal offers another reason to spend time outdoors: it is a good place for a stroll and a visit to the cafés in the surrounding arcades. Depending on your interests, you can take in a plaza with a kiosk and arcades or enjoy a walk with a café visit.

Near Arandas, in the area around the community of Sauz de Cajigal within the municipality, is the Museo de Sitio del Sauz de Cajigal (MUSAC). A description from 2013 mentions an exhibition room each for archaeology and ethnography, hundreds of archaeological finds, and an interactive area designed specifically for children. Its focus on archaeology and ethnography adds another topic to the buildings and plazas: the museum's finds and exhibits.

Festivals at different times of year

The Fiestas Patronales take place in Arandas in January. They include live banda music and bar terraces in the arcades. The Fiestas de Abril, by contrast, are held in late April and early May in honor of San José Obrero. The two festival periods therefore offer different seasonal highlights.

Regional cuisine and Coquitas

Arandas' regional cuisine includes pork carnitas and birria, as well as artisanal cheese, butter, cream and requesĂłn. These specialties include both dishes and several dairy products. Another culinary specialty can be found at Restaurant Bramido: it serves Coquitas, cocktails made with dark soda that draw on a local custom among farmworkers. If you are interested in regional food and drink, you will find not only traditional products here but also a specific connection to a local custom.
