Discover Saint Patrick
Accommodation in Saint Patrick
The 450-acre Levera National Park lies in northeastern Grenada, in the parish of Saint Patrick. Its lagoon and birdlife give the area a strong natural character. History, plantation culture and outdoor activities offer further ways to shape your travel plans.
Experience nature and the landscape
The lagoon in Levera National Park is an important wildlife habitat and refuge for numerous bird species. Those interested in the landscape and its wildlife will find a clear focal point here. Visitors can also walk the trail around the 23-acre pond. From Levera Beach, there are views of Sugar Loaf Island, Green Island and Sandy Island.
Lake Antoine offers a different connection with nature: the lake formed when an extinct volcanic dome collapsed, and it is a crater lake. It is also home to a biodiverse wetland ecosystem. Saint Patrick therefore brings together distinct themes—the lagoon and birdlife of Levera on one hand, and the geological formation and wetland ecosystem of Lake Antoine on the other.
History and cocoa
Leapers’ Hill is marked by a monument. The site is associated with the French attack of 1650, during which about 40 Island Caribs jumped from the cliff, later called le Morne des Sauteurs. Mount Rich is also home to Amerindian petroglyphs, or rock art. These sites add a historical dimension to a trip that differs from the natural features of Levera and Lake Antoine.
Belmont Estate is a 300-year-old working plantation in the northern part of the parish of Saint Patrick. It offers plantation and cocoa tours, as well as a museum. The cocoa fermentation facility showcases traditional and modern processing methods, including the so-called “Dancing of the Cocoa,” in which the beans are polished.
In Hermitage, Saint Patrick, the Grenada Chocolate Company operates a chocolate factory based on the “Tree to bar” principle. This is another aspect of local cocoa production; the company and Belmont Estate each represent their own distinct, specifically described connections to cocoa.
Plan events and activities
The St Patrick’s Day Fiesta takes place every year in March and dates back to 1986. The program includes arts and crafts, agricultural and cultural performances, sports activities and entertainment. If you want to plan your trip around the fiesta, check the exact event dates for your travel year.
At the River Sallee Boiling Springs, visitors can bathe in the pools or have local guides rub the soothing earth mixture onto their skin. The hot springs also hold traditional religious significance for Baptists, who perform rituals there. River Sallee therefore combines a visitor experience with a cultural context to keep in mind respectfully when planning your trip.
SPECTO-guided tours must be booked two days before the tour date. Participants need a permit to access the beach; access is not allowed without one. Include these requirements in your planning if this type of tour is part of your travel plans.
Myristic Mountain has hiking trails and horseback riding excursions. Local buses go as far as the village of Mt Rich; from there, it is a walk to the farm. Alternatively, a taxi can be arranged to the farm. Check local transportation options before your trip, as this information may change. Trail conditions can also vary, and you should check the availability of horseback riding excursions in advance.
Choose a hotel for your plans in Saint Patrick
If you are looking for a hotel in Saint Patrick, first decide which themes you want to shape your stay: nature and birdlife, history and plantation culture, cocoa, or outdoor activities.
