Humboldt: Art, History and Hotels
Accommodation in Humboldt
When staying in Humboldt, you can shape your visit around culture, local history or outdoor activities. Humboldt is located along Highways 5 and 20. Options range from art installations and murals to self-guided tours, mini golf and disc golf; guided visits offer additional ways to explore.
Art and Local History
The Humboldt & District Gallery presents about six art installations each year. It also offers a self-guided tour of notable places in Humboldt, which you can complete on foot or by bicycle. A free area for hands-on craft activities is another feature; the specific program may change. Check it before your visit if you plan to take part in this activity.
Various murals and sculptures in public spaces share stories of history, local life and different cultures. Old Saskatchewan is a series of twelve murals by artist Urban Lukan in the Humboldt Downtown Business Improvement District.
The Humboldt & District Heritage Garden was created in 2005 as part of a regional Centennial art project. It recognized women’s contributions to life on the Prairies over the preceding 100 years; 2005 is the year the garden was created.
Explore Historic Sites on Your Own
The Walking Tour of Historic Downtown Humboldt is self-guided, begins at the museum and leads to historic buildings in the city centre. If you would rather explore notable places in Humboldt than these buildings, the Gallery also offers a self-guided tour that can be completed on foot or by bicycle. The two tours therefore differ both in their stated focus and in the means of travel mentioned.
The Humboldt & District Museum adds scavenger hunts for children and parents to a museum visit; their availability may change. On a guided tour of the historic Humboldt Water Tower, you climb more than 140 steps and reach a 360-degree view. Private tours must be arranged with the museum at least one week in advance.
Mini Golf and Disc Golf
The Humboldt Mini Golf Course is a family-friendly 18-hole facility. The holes feature local businesses, historic landmarks and other community highlights, including the water tower, the Humboldt Museum and depictions of German heritage. So here, too, the water tower and museum appear as themes in a recreational activity.
St. Elizabeth Park is set up for disc golf. This gives you two different games to choose from: mini golf featuring community themes and disc golf in the park.
Original Humboldt Nearby
For a self-guided exploration nearby, Original Humboldt is another option. The site includes art installations, interpretive panels and grass pathways. It is located 8 km west of Humboldt on Highway 5 and 3 km south on Telegraph Road. The panels, art installations and pathways shape a visit to this self-guided site.
