Saint-Antoine-De-Tilly between history and riverside landscapes
Accommodation in Saint-Antoine-De-Tilly
Saint-Antoine-De-Tilly brings together historic buildings, the landscape of the Marais and different views of the St. Lawrence River. Local attractions also have their own distinctive appeal: Fromagerie Bergeron specializes in Gouda, while Fleuraissance ferme florale grows cut flowers. You can shape your stay around history, nature, riverside scenery or local products.
Historic architecture in Saint-Antoine-De-Tilly
The Église de Saint-Antoine-de-Tilly was built between 1786 and 1788 and was classified as a Catholic historic church in 1963. Its interior is also remarkable: it is one of André Paquet’s most complete works. The building period and interior offer different perspectives on the church—its origins in the late 18th century and the artistic work inside.
The Manoir de Tilly was built in 1786 by Jean-Baptiste Noël de Tilly and is the oldest residence in Saint-Antoine-De-Tilly. Another testament to the area’s architectural history is an octagonal barn in the countryside: Philias Aubin built it in 1901, and it is unique within the MRC de Lotbinière. In addition, there are more than 50 houses and buildings with exceptional historic architecture. These structures and the many historic buildings make architecture a defining feature of the town.
Marsh, river and views
The Marais de Saint-Antoine-de-Tilly is a distinctive ecosystem with great biodiversity. Its location in the freshwater estuary of the St. Lawrence River and the tides shape the conditions in which plants found nowhere else, or even rare worldwide, grow. The trail through the Marais runs alongside the marsh and is nine kilometres long. For visitors interested in landscape and nature, it offers a direct connection between the route and the ecosystem.
A municipal lookout on the cliff edge near the old cemetery offers a view of Neuville and the opposite riverbank. The Route des Navigateurs offers a different perspective: Saint-Antoine-De-Tilly is a destination on a cycling route, with the St. Lawrence River in the background. Les Amis du marais de Saint-Antoine-de-Tilly promote public access to the river. Another landmark is Les Fonds de Saint-Antoine, the lower part of the village, with villas and cottages by the water.
Local attractions and products
Fromagerie Bergeron specializes in making Gouda. Visitor facilities include an observation gallery and an interpretation centre; tastings and an on-site sales counter are also available. Here, visitors can learn about the cheesemaking operation and sample its cheese. Fleuraissance ferme florale offers a different experience: this ecological flower farm on the St. Lawrence River grows more than 100 varieties of cut flowers.
When planning your trip, it’s easy to compare the different offerings. The historic buildings give architecture its own focus, while the trail through the Marais, the lookout and the cycling route each offer a different connection to the landscape. Local products, meanwhile, bring together two distinct themes: Gouda and cut flowers. You can choose which aspects of Saint-Antoine-De-Tilly matter most to you during your stay.
