Saint-Roch-des-Aulnaies brings together distinctive architectural history and varied landscapes. At the heart of the village are the designated historic mill and the Domaine seigneurial des Aulnaies, offering two distinct perspectives on the area's heritage. There are also walking trails and snow-dependent cross-country ski trails.

Mill and Seigneurial Estate

The Moulin banal des Aulnaies is a designated historic mill at the heart of Saint-Roch-des-Aulnaies. The water-powered flour mill was built in 1842. The rectangular stone building is three and a half storeys high and stands at the intersection of Route de la Seigneurie and Route 132, on a slope along the Le Bras River. Its date of construction, use and architectural form describe the site from three angles: they indicate when it was built, the mill's purpose and its appearance. Its location by the road and river also anchors the building in the local landscape.

The Domaine seigneurial des Aulnaies is also a designated heritage property in the heart of the village. Bounded by the Ferrée and Le Bras rivers, the grounds lie on a plateau. They include wooded areas, lawns, a pond, rustic gardens and winding paths. The site description of the Domaine focuses on its landscape features, while the mill is defined by its architectural form and milling function.

A historical connection brings the two names together: in the 1980s, the mill was arranged to form part of an interpretation centre on the seigneurial system, together with the nearby Domaine. The mill's architectural history is therefore complemented by the seigneurial system as a historical framework for interpretation.

Walking Trails and Cross-Country Skiing

For walks, the Seigneurie des Aulnaies offers more than 2 km of trails. They lead through an impressive pine forest and run between ornamental trees, an orchard and old flower gardens.

The Bel-Humeur cross-country ski trails offer loops of 1 km, 2.4 km, 3.2 km, 4.3 km, 5.2 km and 6 km. Operations are snow-dependent. New sections pass through several kilometres of grey pine plantations to a ski refuge. When planning, both the different loop lengths and snow conditions are relevant.

More Local Information

The Chapelle de procession Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes is a designated heritage building in Saint-Roch-des-Aulnaies. It stands on the old Chemin du Roy, at the eastern edge of the village centre. While the mill and the Domaine are located at the heart of the village, this description places the chapel on its eastern edge. Parc municipal is located at Place de l'église de Saint-Roch-des-Aulnaies.
