Discover Champlain through its architectural history, routes, and seasonal activities. Historic architecture sits alongside outdoor offerings, with different highlights depending on the season. When planning a stay, you can decide whether to focus on local history, cycling, winter activities, or events.

Historic Sites and Architecture

Le Chemin du Roy is a signposted tourist route spanning 280 km. It runs along the St. Lawrence River and includes a stop in Champlain. At the Église de Champlain, you can visit an important landmark in the town’s history: the church is classified as a national historic site and was built in 1879 by architect and contractor Gédéon Leblanc.

The Résidence du Bon-Pasteur also tells the story of Champlain’s architecture. Its three-storey façade is distinguished by a mansard roof and a central bell tower. The building also bears witness to the community’s important role in education in Champlain. Here, architectural features and a specific local history of education stand side by side.

The historic timeline reaches further back: in 1664, Étienne Pézard built a manor house at the mouth of the Champlain River, on a rocky promontory resembling an island above the river. Around 1700, the first stone church was built on the estate. The town’s architectural landmarks thus range from an early church to the later buildings that shape its historic character today.

An augmented reality experience has also been created for the Église de Champlain. A fictional historical character uses a tablet to show what daily life was like for residents around 1908. Check booking details ahead of your trip if you would like to include this experience.

Routes and Winter Activities

Champlain is on the Route verte, making it a stop for cycling travelers. In winter, there are two other distinct activities: more than 9 km of cross-country ski trails run through the forest near the park-and-ride lot; grooming depends on snow conditions. A snowshoe trail about 3.8 km long can be accessed via Rang St-Pierre. Conditions may also affect use of this seasonal offering.

The Carnaval d'hiver de Champlain is usually held in mid-February each winter. Check the specific event dates for your trip, as the usual timeframe does not confirm the date for any particular year.

Parks and Events

Parc Optimiste is open to residents and visitors. Its facilities include outdoor exercise equipment, various children’s play structures, a pétanque court, and water games. These are in operation from June to September. There is also a pump track—a cycling track with rolling bumps—at the end of the soccer field; safety requirements apply when using it.

The 2026 FĂŞte nationale program in Champlain listed music, entertainment, inflatables, fireworks, food, and musical groups. Program details may vary from year to year. If the event is important to your travel plans, check the specific date and program for the relevant period.

Seasonal Discoveries and Local Information

At Royaume bleuets et fraises, you can pick your own strawberries and blueberries. The seasonal offering runs from late June to early September. At Le Simon de l'Atlantique, you can ask about how the owner first developed a passion for smoking fish. These are two different ways to connect a visit with local themes: one through the harvest, the other through the story of a craft passion.

Across from the Église de Champlain, a Relais d'Information Touristique provides visitors passing through with information about attractions in Champlain and the MRC des Chenaux. The boat launch in Champlain is accessible year-round with a key available from the municipal office. As fees and access procedures may change, it is advisable to check the details before your visit.
