Bécancour: Trails, Birdlife and Acadian Heritage
Accommodation in Bécancour
At the Quai de Sainte-Angèle, you can often spot shorebirds, gulls, ducks, herons and coots. The observation tower at the Quai features six panels about the history of Bécancour’s six sectors. Nature watching and local history come together here in two tangible ways; the Quai also hosts numerous events every summer. If a specific date is important for your trip, check the event dates in advance.
Trails and activities at Parc régional de la rivière Gentilly
Parc régional de la rivière Gentilly is located in Sainte-Marie-de-Blandford and offers camping, cabins and ready-to-camp accommodations. If you plan to stay there, check availability for your travel dates before booking.
The park has 24 kilometres of well-maintained trails and marked routes. These are used for activities such as cycling and ski hok in both summer and winter. The park also has eight Hébertisme modules.
Cycling routes compared
The 54.3-kilometre “Au fil de l’eau” cycling loop follows Route 132. The 9.4-kilometre “Lien industriel Bécancour” cycling loop connects the Bécancour and Gentilly sectors, making it considerably shorter. It was established on a temporary basis. Check route conditions and any temporary restrictions before setting out; for “Lien industriel Bécancour,” you should also confirm the route’s current status.
The Route des Navigateurs offers another scale of exploration: it covers 85 kilometres and includes 21 attractions. You can travel it by bicycle, motorcycle or car, with stops in Bécancour along the way. The two cycling loops therefore differ in their stated lengths, while the Route des Navigateurs can also be explored by motorcycle or car.
Acadian heritage and wine
The Société acadienne Port-Royal offers five exhibitions on the Acadian heritage of the city of Bécancour. Together with the historical panels at the Quai, they provide two different ways to discover Bécancour: its Acadian heritage and the history of its six sectors.
Le Fief de la Rivière is located in the Saint-Grégoire sector. More than 9,500 vines of twelve grape varieties grow across its three hectares. The winery offers activities and wine-tasting packages. This offers a different focus for visitors interested in local history than a trip that includes the winery’s tasting experiences.
The activities listed above can also shape your stay in different ways: nature trails and seasonal activities at the regional park, nature watching and history at the Quai, exhibitions on Acadian heritage, or wine tastings at Le Fief. Which ones you include depends on which of these sides of Bécancour you would like to get to know better on your trip.
