Margaree Valley offers several starting points for planning a trip: a seasonal maple offering, fly fishing as part of a lodge offering, and past music and dance evenings. If you’re looking for hotels for your stay, you can first decide which of these interests will shape your trip. As a broader destination, Inverness County offers additional geographic and cultural connections.

Maple, Fish Hatchery and Music

At Margaree Valley Maple, visitors can sample maple syrup, including classic maple taffy on snow, as well as maple butter. The operation runs seasonally in March and April. The grounds can be visited seasonally; the period may vary. If a tasting or grounds visit is a deciding factor for you, check the seasonal schedule before your trip.

The Margaree Fish Hatchery first opened in 1902. This historical reference adds a different perspective on Margaree Valley’s history to the seasonal maple offerings.

Past Barn Concert-Ceilidhs at the Normaway Inn barn in Margaree Valley featured Celtic music performances by Cape Breton artists, as well as performances by emerging and impromptu guest musicians. An evening program began with a ceilidh, followed by a square dance.

For planning purposes, there is a difference in timing: the maple offering runs seasonally in March and April; the Barn Concert-Ceilidhs and the program of a ceilidh and square dance are part of past events.

Big Intervale Fishing Lodge offers fly fishing for salmon and trout on the Margaree River as part of its lodge offering. This provides a different reason to visit alongside seasonal maple tastings: fly fishing as part of a lodge offering.
