Lake Charlotte brings together two distinct focal points: rural Nova Scotia in the 1940s, as portrayed at Memory Lane Heritage Village, and wilderness activities in Ship Harbour Long Lake Wilderness Area. History, regional cuisine, and nature tourism offer different ways to plan a trip.

History and Daily Life at Memory Lane Heritage Village

Memory Lane Heritage Village is a living history village. It portrays rural Nova Scotia in the 1940s. Visitors interested in daily life during that period will find a historical portrayal that can also be explored through individual buildings and activities.

Clam Harbour United Church has stained-glass windows and a working organ. At Hosking General Store, visitors can buy local goods and weigh beans by hand. For children, the village offers a puzzle-based “Heritage Hunt.” As well as its historical portrayal, a visit includes specific activities and places that appeal to different interests.

You can eat at the cookhouse without paying museum admission; meal times are seasonal. Memory Lane Heritage Village also offers the “Cold Waters Seafood Sampler,” featuring five seafood specialties prepared traditionally. Check whether the sampler is available before your trip.

All buildings are wheelchair accessible, except for the second floor of Webber House. Some entrances are narrow or have a small threshold where the ramp meets the historic building. Staff can help. Since accessibility may change if buildings or entrances are modified, it is a good idea to inquire before your visit.

Memory Lane Heritage Village also has a Level II electric vehicle charging station with a standard J-1772 connector and a Tesla connector.
