Aldouane: Parish History and Regional Experiences
Accommodation in Aldouane
Saint Charles Borromée Parish is a tangible starting point if you would like to place Aldouane in its historical context. It was founded around 1800 at Pointe de l’Aldouane. At the turn of the century, there was a church in Lardouane, now l’Aldouane. The two details refer to different places: the parish was founded at the Pointe, while the earlier name Lardouane preserves the place name used at the time.
Church History and Its Key Dates
The first church of Saint Charles Borromée Parish burned down in 1922. In June 1819, residents of Aldouane asked the bishop to divide the mission and appoint Gagnon as pastor in only one of the parts. These details concern different aspects of the parish’s history: the destruction of the first church and a specific request about how pastoral care should be organized. People from Richibucto continued to attend Saint Charles Parish church in l’Aldouane until 1861.
A life story also connects the parish to a later church career: Norbert Robichaud was from Saint Charles Borromée Parish, was ordained a priest in 1931, and later became the second Archbishop of Moncton. The gravestone of Private Ernest David is located in Little Aldouane Roman Catholic Cemetery. The Little Aldouane site was abandoned in 1861. This historical overview therefore includes both a biographical connection and a specifically named burial site, as well as an abandoned location.
Kent County as the Wider Travel Region

Le Pays de la Sagouine is also part of the wider travel region of Kent County. It opened in 1992 on a small island in Bouctouche Bay and offers live performances and a rich cultural program from April to December. Program details may vary by season; check the dates before your trip if seeing a performance is important to you. Visitors can also enjoy Fricot there.
For a nighttime experience in Kent County, Akadi Lumina offers a nature trail featuring lighting effects, projections, soundscapes, and scenography. Dates are seasonal, so plan your trip around the current program.
Another cultural and historical site in Kent County is Bonar Law Common in Rexton. It includes the birthplace of Andrew Bonar Law, as well as the historic Bonar Law House and its associated farm. The local museum displays artifacts and has a gift shop. The festival grounds host summer and fall activities, events, and gatherings overlooking the Richibucto River.
