Riverview connects the Riverfront Trail along the Petitcodiac River with the Dobson Trail, which begins in town and leads to the eastern boundary of Fundy National Park. There are also performances and seasonal events. When choosing a hotel, you can weigh whether your stay will be shaped more by trails and outdoor activities or by a cultural event.

River Trail and Hiking Route

The Riverfront Trail is 5.2 km long and runs along the Petitcodiac River. It features a riverside trail for running, walking and cycling. The Dobson Trail begins on Pine Glen Road in Riverview and runs through the Caledonia Highlands in Albert County to the eastern boundary of Fundy National Park. Hikers, snowshoers and backcountry cross-country skiers use it in all seasons.

Culture and Seasonal Events

Performances are held at the Riverview Arts Centre. Weekly summer concerts and film screenings are part of the seasonal program at Caseley Park. Since the program may change, check the current schedule before visiting if you want to plan your stay around an event in the park. The Fundy Chocolate River Station, located in the heart of Riverview, is another local highlight.

Albert County as a Broader Travel Destination

The broader travel destination of Albert County has a coastline along the Bay of Fundy. Albert County’s coastal rivers and forests are suited to hiking. Fundy National Park lies along Albert County’s southwestern boundaries and borders Chignecto Bay to the south. In the park, trails lead inland to waterfalls in Acadian forests. Highway 114 crosses the park for 21 kilometres, from Wolfe Lake in the northwest to Alma in the southeast, and connects it to the Trans-Canada Highway.

Museums and Regional History

The Albert County Museum & R.B. Bennett Commemorative Centre is located on the site of the county’s 1845 “shiretown.” It includes 24 exhibits in eight original historic buildings. The landscaped, six-acre site offers views of the Petitcodiac River and Shepody Bay. The New Brunswick Railway Museum is designated a Local Historic Place because its site and collections are connected to the railway history of Hillsborough and New Brunswick. Its historic exhibition building houses railway artifacts and photographs documenting the history of railways in New Brunswick. The Steeves House Museum is the historic birthplace of the Honourable William Henry Steeves.

The season can also be important when exploring Albert County: Mary’s Point Bird Sanctuary is a seasonal stopover site for more than 300,000 Semipalmated Sandpipers between mid-July and mid-August.
