When planning a trip to Valemount, several themes come together: watching spawning Chinook salmon, trails in town, and the railway history featured at the museum. If you are looking for a hotel in Valemount, you can first decide whether salmon season, trails, or cultural attractions will shape your stay.

Salmon and Trails in Valemount

George Hicks Regional Park has a platform for watching spawning Chinook salmon. The fish travel from the Pacific Ocean via the Fraser River to Swift Creek. This happens every year from late July to mid-August. If you would like to include this viewing opportunity in your plans, schedule your trip during this window.

The Big Foot Trail Loop goes around part of town and includes historic Main Street and 5th Avenue in the town centre. The Swift Creek Loop offers a different experience: it crosses a suspension bridge and has a viewpoint overlooking Valemount and the surrounding mountains.

The Swift Creek Loop trailhead can be reached via downtown and Main Street. From 5th Avenue, the route crosses the railway tracks to Main Street; after about 1 km, the trail begins just beyond the bridge. Parking is available in front of or behind the bridge, opposite Golden Years Lodge. This route description gives you specific directions to the trailhead; the distance is approximate.

Nearby, Valemount Bike Park spans two local mountains connected by a small valley. It is accessible via forest roads. Trail features include flow trails, a prominent jump line, elaborate rock sections, challenging wooden features, and occasional purpose-built technical trails.
