Grande Prairie offers a range of themes to consider when planning your stay: Muskoseepi Park is known for trails and outdoor activities, while the Eastlink Centre offers aquatic and indoor sports. Several facilities are also dedicated to the region’s history or art.

Park trails and outdoor activities

Muskoseepi Park stretches through the centre of Grande Prairie and covers more than 1,100 acres of parkland. Its trail network offers 18 km of paved and natural-surface trails. Activities available there include hiking, cycling and cross-country skiing. The mix of trail surfaces and activities gives you several things to consider when planning time outdoors, without all the trails having the same surface.

A pond adds to the trails: it can be used year-round for fishing and skating. This adds other distinct ways to enjoy the park alongside its trails. If you divide your time outdoors by interest, you can consider hiking, cycling or cross-country skiing as one focus, and the two pond activities as another.

Aquatic and indoor sports at the Eastlink Centre

The Eastlink Centre brings together aquatic and indoor sports. The centre has a competition-ready, Olympic-sized 50-metre swimming pool, diving towers, a surf simulator and a water park. These facilities offer several distinct options: the swimming pool, diving towers and other aquatic attractions can each be considered a separate part of the sports offering. This lets you be more specific when planning your day and deciding which type of aquatic activity interests you.

For indoor sports, there are areas for basketball, volleyball, badminton and squash, as well as an indoor running track. The different sports include team sports, racquet sports and running. Compared with the trail network at Muskoseepi Park, the focus here is on sports facilities within a single venue. The Eastlink Centre also has various food and beverage providers and health and wellness shops. These complement the sports facilities with other on-site amenities.

History and art in Grande Prairie

There are different areas of focus within the region’s cultural and historical offerings, too. Forbes Homestead is the oldest standing building in Grande Prairie. Heritage Village is a collection of 20 historic and replica buildings from Grande Prairie’s history. While Forbes Homestead focuses on a single building, Heritage Village offers an overview of a group of historic and replica buildings.

The Grande Prairie Museum & Heritage Village presents the region’s history. The Grande Prairie Museum has a collection of more than 55,000 artifacts. The Art Gallery of Grande Prairie has a different focus: it maintains the largest public art collection in the Peace Region. You can therefore choose based on the subject that interests you most—a historic building, a collection of buildings, artifacts or public art. History and art in Grande Prairie are not represented by a single offering, but by different institutions and collections.
