Discover Redwood Meadows
Accommodation in Redwood Meadows
Redwood Meadows lies within the TsuuT'ina Nation, in the foothills that mark the end of the Great Plains and the beginning of the Rockies. The Elbow River flows alongside the community. The scenery, trails, and community recreation offerings give a stay several possible focuses. As you plan, consider whether you want to focus mainly on trails, sports facilities, events, or local history.
Trails and seasonal activities
The townsite has community walking paths, hiking trails, and cycling routes. These three activities offer different options for planning your trip: a walk, a hike, or a bike ride. In winter, cross-country ski tracks are groomed on the flood berm along the river; this option gives your travel dates a clear seasonal focus. If cross-country skiing is important to you, plan with the winter season in mind.
Recreation in the townsite
The disc golf course is by the river and can be reached via the berm beside the playing fields and tennis court. The outdoor skating rink has a heated change room and washroom facilities. The central recreation area includes a soccer field, tennis courts, basketball courts, a baseball field, and a skate park. This gives you community trails and a range of sports facilities as distinct options to focus on when planning.
Local history and events
After a wildfire in 1940, elders of the TsuuT'ina Nation named the area “Redwood Yard” for the reddish regrowth of poplars and spruce. The local history thus links a specific event with the named tree species and a local name.
The Redwood Meadows Community Association organizes local events, including the annual Easter egg hunt with a pancake breakfast, Canada Day, and Santa in the Woods. Event dates may vary. If you want to plan your trip around one of these events, check the current dates before making plans.
The Tsuut’ina Nation Annual Celebration Powwow program includes Grand Entries, drum music, dance performances, and singing competitions. These program elements give a concrete sense of the event’s different components. Powwows take place somewhere in the province nearly every summer weekend in Alberta; individual dates vary.
Community and golf club
People come together at the Redwood Meadows Community Garden to grow food and learn from one another. The distinctive and sometimes challenging climate is part of the project’s context. For travelers interested in community initiatives, the garden adds another focus—food growing and shared learning—to the sports facilities and events.
The Redwood Meadows Golf Club has a full-service clubhouse. Since services may change, check what is currently offered before visiting. Even if you don’t play golf, you’re welcome at Redwood Yards when it is open.
