Coaldale offers specific points of interest for a range of travel interests: a birds of prey centre on a wetland, a museum dedicated to the region’s cultural and historical heritage, and golf and mountain biking options. There is also a swimming pool and a seasonal memorial observance at the cemetery. The places differ considerably in what is at the heart of a visit.

Nature and Birds of Prey

The Alberta Birds of Prey Centre is the largest facility of its kind in Canada and is located on a 70-acre wetland. The centre showcases Alberta’s hawks, falcons, eagles and owls. Both the site’s natural setting and several groups of birds are part of what defines the place: the wetland describes the surroundings, while the birds are the main focus. The grounds have accessible trails and picnic areas. If you would like to include nature and wildlife in your travel plans, the centre offers a clearly defined focus.

Cultural History at the Gem of the West Museum

With more than 15 exhibits, the Gem of the West Museum celebrates the region’s cultural and historical heritage. Recreated Main Street scenes include a general store, a café and a one-room schoolhouse. These scenes show how the exhibit offers a way to explore regional history through recreated places. They are complemented by a working blacksmith shop, where visitors can watch traditional crafts in action. Recreated scenes and observable craftwork thus offer distinct ways to engage with the past.

The building itself is also part of the museum’s historical context: it is housed in a preserved Mennonite Brethren church dating from 1939. For a visit focused on cultural history, the exhibits, recreated street scenes, blacksmith shop and church come together as different aspects of the site.

Golf and Mountain Biking

Land-O-Lakes Golf and Country Club welcomes visitors who want to experience everything the golf course has to offer. The course has 18 holes. Coaldale Mountain Bike Park offers a different kind of sporting experience, with three loop trails, three jump lines and two pump tracks. The figures describe different features: the number of holes is given for the golf course, while the number of trails, lines and pump tracks is given for the bike park. Golf and mountain biking can therefore be considered as two separate activities when planning a trip.
