Discover Ovezande
Accommodation in Ovezande
Ovezande can be explored from three specific perspectives: the village centre with Theehuis De Pastorie, historic buildings and preserved architectural features, and routes for walking or cycling. There is also Klomppop, an annual festival. For your travel planning, these topics differ mainly in whether you have a place, a route or a specific event date in mind.
Tea room in the village centre
Theehuis De Pastorie is located in the centre of Ovezande in a former parsonage. It welcomes tourists and passers-by for cappuccino, speciality tea and freshly baked apple pie. Its selection includes more than ten varieties of fresh tea; the selection may change. Check whether the tea room is currently open before your trip. This makes it easy to plan a visit as a specific break in the village centre: the tea room combines food and drink with a named historic building.
Klomppop and its dates
Klomppop takes place in Ovezande every year; check future dates with the organiser. The festival is held at Nieuwstraat 31. The 2026 edition has already taken place: on Sunday, 31 May, street theatre was part of the programme at the festival site. That edition also featured various food trucks. The date, theatre programme and food trucks apply specifically to that edition and should not automatically be assumed for future years. If Klomppop is the reason for your trip, plan around the date and programme announced for the relevant edition.
Building history and surviving traces
The Nederlands Hervormde Kerk in Ovezande was built in the 15th century in the Gothic style. Another historic landmark is the Rijksmonument at Kerkplein 1, which dates back to 1645. These details refer to different periods of construction and should be treated as separate historical references.
At Kerkplein 8 is a restored former Reformed church, now called Het Wit Arjaentje, which is privately owned. Its name comes from the only surviving fresco, which depicts Saint Adrianus. As it is privately owned, it is advisable to check whether a visit is possible before you go.
Three façade stones from the demolished Vischhuijs are built into the cemetery wall in Ovezande. What remains here are architectural elements from the former house, not the building itself. West of Ovezande is De Blazekop, an octagonal grain mill built in 1884 and powered by wind. Its year of construction, shape and function give this mill a clearly defined place among the village’s historic buildings and traces.
Getting around on foot or by bike
The Ovezande walking route starts and ends at Dorpshuis Trefpunt, Hoofdstraat 54, 4441 AE Ovezande. The Dorps-Ommetje-Ovezande is part of the “Sporen in de Zak” walking network; check the route details before setting out. These provide two different points of reference when choosing a route: the walking route has a specific start and end address, while the Dorps-Ommetje is identified as part of a named network.
The biodiverse cycling route runs south of Ovezande. It is not signposted but can be downloaded from the website. This makes it different from the walking route, for which an address is provided: downloading the route is important because there are no signposts. You can therefore first choose a route based on how you plan to get around and the relevant guidance provided, then check the details before setting out.
