Get to know De Lier through its historic church paths, the Domkerk and Museum De Timmerwerf. Green spaces, the River De Lee and recreational activities add further themes to this local history for your stay.

Church Path, Domkerk and Craftsmanship

The Perdiksepad is a historic church path in De Lier that has existed for at least 750 years. In 2025, it was rerouted about 145 metres to the west and redesigned. Two short sections of the original road paving were preserved. Together with the Kralingerpad, the Perdiksepad forms a walking loop of about 1.2 kilometres through the countryside around De Lier. This lets you consider the historic path and a specific circular route as related but distinct aspects.

The Domkerk is a late Gothic church that was probably built in the mid-15th century. Its blunt tower defines the village skyline of De Lier. The construction date is an estimate; its late Gothic classification and distinctive silhouette offer two different ways to understand the church’s history and place in the village.

Museum De Timmerwerf is housed in a historic building where a carpenter’s workshop has operated continuously since 1642. The old workshop has been largely preserved intact; in the attic, the museum displays centuries-old authentic tools. Both the building’s long history of craftsmanship and its preserved tools are central to this site.

Green Spaces and Birdlife

De Lierhout Park features a variety of plantings and themed landscape areas. Its facilities include an animal pasture, a playground and a football pitch. The landscaped areas and specific facilities provide different options to consider when planning your time outdoors.

Zeven Gaten is an important resting, feeding and breeding area for birds. These functions make the nature reserve a distinct feature of the landscape around De Lier. The recreation area ’t Kraaiennest is also nearby: it lies on the edge of De Lier, at the junction of Maasland, Schipluiden and De Lier. It is worth visiting all year round.

Recreational Activities and Regional Experiences

At De Tuinderij, you can book E-Puch and E-kickbike tours through the municipalities of Midden-Delfland and Westland. De Tuinderij is also an event venue and offers full-day entertainment programmes for larger groups of 20 to 500 people. Activities that can be combined include “Plankgas door de Kas”, “Wc-Pot Race”, “Levend Tafelvoetbal”, “4 op ’n rij Ballenrace”, “Waar is de mol?”, tug-of-war, Zweefbalspel, Voetdarts and Sumo-Worstelen.

Syl’s Puur Genieten makes artisan, homemade regional products, including fruit jams, chutneys and juices made from 100 percent fruit. It also offers cycling tours of about 25 kilometres. The programme includes a farm lunch, a picnic along the way and a final barbecue, including drinks. The approximate route length and the meals listed give you specific points to consider when weighing this experience against other interests during your trip.

Waterway and Event Date

The River De Lee runs through the village centre, with boats passing behind the houses. For the 2027 edition, the published route of the Varend Corso passes through De Lier and Schipluiden. As the route may vary from one edition to the next, check the route for the relevant edition before your trip.

Whether you are especially interested in the long history of the Perdiksepad, the architecture of the Domkerk, traditional craftsmanship or regional activities, De Lier offers a range of themes to consider when planning your stay.
