Discover Het Korfwater
Accommodation in Het Korfwater
Het Korfwater is characterised by a wet dune valley in the Pettemerduinen. Another landmark is Korfwater Beach at beach access 16 between Petten and Sint Maartenszee. When planning your trip, you can focus on different things: a walk along the blue route from Petten, time at Korfwater Beach, a longer cycling route, or a visit to the nearby art studio. Route lengths and visitor information provide concrete points of reference for your planning.
Dune Valley and Dune Landscape
In Het Korfwater, a wet dune valley lies in the southern part of the Pettemerduinen. The Pettemerduinen form a long, narrow strip of dunes between the Zwanenwater and the Hondsbossche Zeewering. The landscape therefore ranges from the specific dune valley to a larger dune area. If the landscape is important to your trip planning, this distinction offers both a local point of reference and a broader geographical context.
Hiking and Discovering the Landscape
The blue walking route from Petten is 5.8 km long and runs along the beach and through the dune valleys of Het Korfwater. The distance gives the route length; your personal walking pace is also a factor when planning how long it will take. As local waymarking can change, check the markers before setting out. In the Petten area, a red walking route passes the bird-rich Abtskolk. The pond is a remnant of a breach from 1570. The two routes offer different experiences: the blue route passes through beach and dune valleys, while the red route adds a natural attraction with a historical connection.
At the northern edge of the Pettemerduinen, the route returns via the Zijperzeedijk. As route conditions can change seasonally, check the current route beforehand.
Korfwater Beach and Dogs
Korfwater Beach is located at beach access 16 between Petten and Sint Maartenszee. The designated off-leash area on the beach is approximately 2 km long. Dogs are allowed to run off leash at Korfwater Beach all year round. Local restrictions and signs take precedence; if you are travelling with a dog, check the information on site.
Cycling into the Hinterland
The GPS cycling route “Zee, duin, dijk en polder” is 18 km long and follows the new cycle path along the Hondsbossche Duinen into the hinterland. The Hondsbossche Duinen are a newly formed landscape. Directly compared, the 18 km cycling route is longer than the 5.8 km blue walking route. As these involve different modes of travel, the distances do not indicate walking or cycling times. They do, however, help you gauge the planned distance for each activity. Cycling route infrastructure can change, so check the route before setting out.
Art Nearby
Nearby is Atelier de Zeehaas, an art studio where seascapes are painted in oil. Visiting hours are listed as Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 12 to 17, as well as appointments by arrangement during the week. Confirm the possibility of visiting in advance. For travellers interested in seascape painting as well as the landscape and beach, the studio offers a distinct point of interest.
