Julianadorp Aan Zee between beach, dunes and tulips
Accommodation in Julianadorp Aan Zee
Julianadorp Aan Zee combines the North Sea coast, dunes and seasonal excursions. From Julianadorp aan Zee, the North Sea lies beyond the broad Noorderduinen and can be reached by bicycle via the Strandslagen. At the latitude of Julianadorp, the Noordduinen are part of the Duinen Den Helder-Callantsoog Natura 2000 site. The coastal landscape and the time of year therefore shape the choice of excursions; local history, flower-related activities and water activities add to the options.
Coast and beach access
Strandslag Julianadorp is Julianadorp aan Zee’s largest and best-known beach access point. There is a large pavilion and a supervised beach lifeguard station; the beach also holds a Blue Flag. The beach lifeguard station operates seasonally, and beach facilities may change. If you want to plan your visit around a particular beach facility, check the current situation in advance.
During the summer season, Kustbus route 851 runs from Den Helder railway station to Strandslag Julianadorp. From the Strandslag Noordzee stop, it is a ten-minute walk to the beach. As the bus runs seasonally and its route and number may change, check the timetable before travelling.
Local history in three landmarks
Loopuytpark is the historic heart of Julianadorp. The foundation stone of the village church was laid on 8 October 1909. That same year, the village was named after the newborn Princess Juliana. The church’s construction and the naming of the village are thus linked to the same year, while the park provides another point of reference for local history.
Spring blooms at Floratuin
If you are travelling in spring, Floratuin Julianadorp offers a flowering display garden featuring, among other plants, daffodils, tulips, hyacinths and other bulbs. Hundreds of tulip varieties grow in the Tulpen-Pluktuin, where visitors can pick their own bouquet from 1 April to mid-May. Blooming times vary from year to year, and seasonal opening dates may change. Plan a visit around the current dates.
Floratuin also offers workshops with flowers as their central theme. Tours of the business are available by appointment. Confirm availability for workshops and tours before travelling.
Surfing and canoeing
Surfschool High5 teaches the basics of surfing right by the sea. Classes start on the beach by the Paal 6 pavilion; they are weather-dependent and should be booked or confirmed. If you are looking for a different water activity, you can compare surfing with canoeing on the Kanoroute: here, the focus is on different locations and activities.
Camping Julianadorp rents out canoes on the Kanoroute in Julianadorp. The canoes are suitable for young and older paddlers, as well as experienced and inexperienced ones. As rental availability should be confirmed, check before travelling.
Bread and pastries in Julianadorp
At Winkelcentrum de Riepel in Julianadorp, Bakkerij Slijkerman offers artisan bread, homemade cookies and pastries. You can browse and sample the products there. Opening arrangements and the product range may change; if you are visiting for a particular product, it is best to check in advance.
The flower attractions and the beach connection make different seasons appealing: the display garden and tulip picking are spring activities, while Kustbus route 851 runs during the summer season. If you are making one of these excursions a priority, plan around the relevant season and check the specific dates or timetable.
