Panningen brings together sacred architectural history, industrial history, and opportunities for culture and exercise. If you are looking for hotels in Panningen, you can choose where to stay based on your travel plans: churches and chapels represent different historical periods, while DOK6 combines a theater and a service cinema. For exercise, there is the Nature Walk Panningen and cycling routes in the municipality of Peel en Maas.

Churches, Chapels and Pilgrimage History

The parish church of Onze Lieve Vrouw van Zeven Smarten stands on a narrow, elongated plot between Kerkstraat and Pastoor Huijbenplein in the old center. H. W. Valk built the church in 1930 in collaboration with the parish priest and builder J. H. Huijben. The pilgrimage tradition to Onze Lieve Vrouw van Zeven Smarten goes back further: it began with the construction of a pilgrimage chapel in 1638 and attracted pilgrims from the wider area.

In the center of Panningen, the Kloosterkapel, with its adjoining sacristy and former burial chapel, is part of a monastery complex. The chapel was built in 1907 and consecrated on April 28, 1908. A notable historical feature is the rare 1912 neo-Gothic organ. It comes from the Paris workshop of A. Cavaillé-Coll and Ch. Mutin and is considered rare in the Netherlands.

The Odiliakapel offers a different connection to the area. It stands on the edge of the built-up area, at the intersection of Beekstraat and Zandbergweg. There is a bench beside the chapel. The building dates from 1864 and was restored in 1984. Inside, the red bricks are exposed; an image of Saint Odilia stands on an altar behind reflective Plexiglas.

Market, Culture and Industrial History

The Panningen weekly market takes place every Wednesday from 09:00 to 16:00. If the market is a fixed part of your day's plans, briefly check the current market hours in advance, as regular schedules can change.

DOK6 is located in the center of Panningen and includes a theater, a service cinema, a café with a restaurant, a foyer, and a business lounge. This brings together several cultural and dining options in one place. The program and individual facilities may change, so it is worth checking DOK6's current information before a specific visit.

At the western edge of Panningen stands the Ringoven, a former ring kiln building designed in 1909. The facility operated until the beginning of the 1990s and was then considered the last traditionally operating ring kiln complex in Limburg. De Ringoven is now a restaurant in the former Heldensche Steenfabriek in Panningen. If you would like to dine there, check the current opening information beforehand.

Exploring on Foot and by Bike

The Nature Walk Panningen leads from the industrial estate into the rural surroundings of Panningen. Its route highlights the transition between the built-up environment and the countryside.

There are five cycling tours designated by IVN in the municipality of Peel en Maas, featuring notable and monumental trees. Along the way, the program also explores art, landscape, and the stories behind the trees. The IVN overview lists Panningen as well as Egchel, Grashoek, Helden, Beringe, and Koningslust. At VVV Panningen, you can also find a selection of cycling and walking routes, as well as local products from the region.

For planning, you can distinguish between the options by their focus: the weekly market has a fixed day of the week, DOK6 brings together culture and dining, and the IVN tours connect the theme of trees with art and landscape. This lets you choose your destination based on the interests that matter most during your stay in Panningen.
