The De Tien Malen Museum presents Putten’s history through archaeological finds. Farm history, country estates, nature and marked walking trails also offer different ways to shape your stay. You can plan your visit around culture, landscapes or outdoor activities.

Museums and History

At the De Tien Malen Museum, an archaeology room displays prehistoric pottery and stone tools. Another exhibition brings together historical objects from household life, crafts and agriculture in the context of Putten’s former farming culture. Archaeological finds and evidence of rural everyday life thus come together in two distinct parts of the collection.

The Museumboerderij De Mariahoeve is an entirely authentic Veluwe farm dating from 1907. It presents the sisters’ nearly self-sufficient way of life: butter made in a churn, vegetables from the kitchen garden, and meat and dairy products from their own animals illustrate how different foods were produced. Guided tours and a multilingual audio tour complement the visit; check visitor services before your trip.

The history of the raid is presented in words and images in the Gedachtenisruimte. Panels name the men who were deported and those who lost their lives. The Gedachtenisruimte has been open to the public since 1992. De Vrouw van Putten is a sandstone statue depicting a grieving woman in traditional dress. Putten has three Liberation Route Europe listening stations, each of which plays an audio story.

Country Estates and Walking Trails

Oldenaller is located near Putten. The estate includes a 17th-century castle: Kasteel Oldenaller was built in 1655 on the orders of Johan van Wijnbergen. The castle’s landscaped park features winding paths and bodies of water. Oldenaller is also home to heathland, woodland, streams, hedgerows and farmland. A heron colony has been nesting there for many years. The Klompenpad Oldenaller starts at Broekermolenweg 7 in Putten.

Landgoed Schovenhorst was established in 1848. Its five tree gardens emerged from 19th- and 20th-century experiments in tree cultivation and forestry with conifers. Visitors can explore them on themed walks or join guided tours. The estate also hosts themed days, workshops, children’s treasure hunts and indoor and outdoor theatre performances; the seasonal programme may change.

The Bostoren Schovenhorst is 40 metres high and can be climbed via 235 steps. From the top, the view extends across Amersfoort and the Veluwe. Marked walking trails of 2.5, 4 and 8.5 kilometres are connected to the tower. De Boswandeling is a 4-kilometre yellow-marked trail through Landgoed Schovenhorst that passes four tree gardens. The cultural and historical route Wandelen op Schovenhorst is about 8 kilometres long and marked in red. Check trail markings and access before setting out. From the Putterbos, you can extend your walk towards Krachtighuizerheide and Landgoed Schovenhorst.

Nature, Water and Local Experiences

Bosbad Putten offers a range of swimming facilities: a subtropical swimming pool with a 110-metre wild water ride and a slide with lighting effects, as well as an outdoor pool with diving boards and a slide. There is also a toddlers’ pool and a spray park with various water features.

Delta Schuitenbeek combines the purification of water flowing in from the Schuitenbeek with the creation of new habitats for numerous birds. A large birdwatching hide is located at the edge of the nature development project. Here, a nature management project and a specific observation point come together.

At Pluktuin het Platteland, you can pick your own vegetables, fruit and flowers. Produce is available seasonally. The grounds also include a garden café and a shop selling regional products; opening hours and seasonal offerings may change. Check current visitor information before your visit.

The Putter Stoomgemaal welcomes visitors during maintenance work on Wednesday mornings and on special operating days. At those times, the stoker and machinist explain the history and operation of the steam engine. The Korenmolen 't Hert still turns regularly and offers guided tours. As opening and tour times may change, check current visiting arrangements in advance.
