Discover Eibergen
Accommodation in Eibergen
Eibergen offers several different starting points for planning your trip: regional history, milling technology, open-air theatre and activities on the Berkel. You can choose your focus depending on whether you are more interested in historical periods, a specific building or an activity with a seasonal schedule.
Museum, Mill and Open-Air Theatre
Museum de Scheper is the history museum for Eibergen and the surrounding area. It presents the history of Eibergen and Berkelland from prehistoric times to the modern era. Its timeline therefore spans many eras; at the same time, the museum focuses on Eibergen and the wider region. If you are interested in history, de Scheper offers a broad historical perspective, while the Mallumsche Molen is a specific example of historic milling technology.
The Mallumsche Molen is a water-powered grain and hulling mill on an old branch of the River Berkel in the hamlet of Mallem near Eibergen. Its name refers to two functions: grinding grain and hulling it. Visitors are welcome when volunteer millers are present. Plan your visit accordingly and check in advance whether the millers will be there.
Openluchttheater Eibergen is located in De Maat walking park on the edge of the village centre. It can accommodate 1,650 visitors, including 600 seats. The total capacity and the number of seats should therefore be understood as separate figures. The capacity may change following redevelopment.
Experiences on the Berkel
The Berkelzomp “De Snippe” is used for tourist boat trips in Eibergen. On Thursday evenings in June, July and August, evening trips are possible on the historic Berkel. The trip includes a guided visit to the Kruidenhof te Mallum, located on the banks of the Berkel near Eibergen. This seasonal offer combines a river trip with a visit to the garden. Check the dates and availability of the trips before you travel.
The Flamingoroute also passes through Eibergen. The 450-kilometre route can be cycled in sections; its length and course may change. So you do not have to commit to the entire route when planning a bike ride. The Bijenpad offers a way to discover the green surroundings of Eibergen. The BerkelGame has a different focus: it is a digital walking route through Eibergen, where you solve tasks using a smartphone or tablet and encounter people from the past through augmented reality. As the digital platform’s availability may change, check before making plans.
The activities differ mainly in their format: the Flamingoroute focuses on cycling in sections, the BerkelGame combines a walking route with digital tasks, and the evening trip on the Berkelzomp is available seasonally. You can choose activities based on the kind of experience you are looking for in Eibergen.
