Casacce: Hiking and History
Accommodation in Casacce
Casacce offers specific points of interest for a trip that combines hiking and historical connections. If you are looking for a hotel, enter Casacce as your destination and compare the options for your travel dates. Two hikes are particularly relevant for your planning: the Anello di Belvedere loop and the stage from Acquapartita to Tranquillo. Their descriptions differ in length and route.
Hikes on different scales
The Anello di Belvedere loop is approximately 10 km long, with an elevation change of about 450 m. The distance gives you a sense of the loop’s overall length; the elevation change is a separate planning consideration. Nearby, the trail offers views of the peaks that separate Umbria from the Marche. At Fosso Valcodale, the loop crosses a small stream. The views and the stream add two specific landscape features to the information about distance and elevation change. If you are considering the loop, you can weigh these features together when planning your hike.
The hiking stage from Acquapartita to Tranquillo is 21 km long and rated moderate. It reaches Casacce after a descending farm track meets a steep mule track that leads into a gorge. Compared with the approximately 10 km loop, the stage is considerably longer. The “moderate” rating and the described sequence of trails apply to this stage; together, they offer a different planning perspective from the distance and viewpoints of the Anello di Belvedere. Trail conditions can change, so check them before setting out.
Religious and historical connections
In addition to the hiking trails, the Chiesa dei Santi Pietro e Paolo in Belvedere provides a religious connection: it is a subsidiary church. This designation briefly identifies the church’s status in Belvedere and complements the natural and trail-related features with a cultural connection.
The small statue of Saint Ubaldo was erected on 11 September 1975 in the hamlet of Casacce-Belvedere, along the main road between Gubbio and Perugia. It was intended to remind travelers from Perugia that they were entering the municipality and diocese of S. Ubaldo. The ruins of Castello di Valcodale are nearby. Despite weathering, they retain impressive architectural features. These historical connections highlight three distinct things: the religious status of the Chiesa, the statue’s commemorative purpose, and the surviving architectural elements of the castle.
