When planning a stay in Corlo I, you can focus on three themes: family experiences at Mielisa in Corlo, cultural sites in Montone, and trails and events in the area. This lets you plan your trip around a specific experience, a historical visit, or a seasonal event.

Family activities and experiences at Mielisa

Fattoria Didattica Mielisa in Corlo, in the municipality of Montone, offers children and families educational experiences with animals and in a rural setting. On the “Passeggiate naturalistiche” (Nature Walks), a short, easy trail suitable for children leads from the educational farm to the Carpina stream. The “Dal campo alla tavola: come mangiare sano” (From Field to Table: How to Eat Healthily) workshop involves grinding wheat or corn kernels into flour and making pizzas or cookies using Mielisa’s recipe. Mielisa also offers riding lessons for children, teenagers, and adults, and runs an animal-assisted intervention center.

Churches, museum and Rocca in Montone

The Chiesa di San Francesco in Montone was built in the early 14th century. The Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Assunta e San Gregorio dates in its current form to the second half of the 17th century and stands on an older building dating back at least to the 14th century. The Museo San Francesco houses a wooden Deposition from the Cross dating to the second half of the 13th century. The artwork therefore predates the construction of the Chiesa di San Francesco.

Near Montone, the Rocca d’Aries has retained its original structure, although it has been adapted for residential use. It is currently closed to the public except on special occasions. Before planning a visit, check whether such an occasion is taking place.

Trails and outdoor activities

The area around Montone offers opportunities for walking, trekking, cycling tourism, and stargazing. The Coloti astronomical observatory has a seven-meter-diameter dome and twelve rooms. CAI Trail 116 runs from Tre Ponti in the municipality of Montone to the Chiesa della Madonna dei Confini and continues to Le Carpini, where it meets CAI Trail 115.

A separate route to note is the road to the Chiesetta della Madonna dei Confini: it climbs from San Lorenzo to the Corlo hamlet on Scontrini Hill. If you plan to travel this stretch of road, check road conditions before your visit, as they may change.

Festivals and farm shop

The Festa della Donazione della Sacra Spina is held every year in Montone and has developed into a historical reenactment. The Festa del Bosco is an autumn market, usually held between late October and early November, and is associated with various cultural initiatives. If you want to plan your trip around the Festa del Bosco, check the current event dates in advance.

At its Corlo location, Agriturismo Acquacalda offers local agricultural products at its farm shop, including beef and pork, honey, and jams. Ask about availability and public access before visiting. This lets you plan this stop regardless of whether your main interest is cultural sites, outdoor activities, or a seasonal festival.
