Coloretta: Historic Village Center, Villa Quiligotti and San Rocco
Accommodation in Coloretta
Location and Historic Village Center
Coloretta lies at an elevation of 680 m below the village of Castello. The settlement stretches along a gently rolling slope between the Gordana and Dorgiola streams. To the northwest, the steep, wooded slope of Monte Favà rises to over 950 m. The elevation figures refer to different points: the settlement and the slope of Monte Favà, which continues to rise. Together with Castello and the two streams, they help you find your bearings in the landscape. The historic village center forms the heart of Coloretta and adds a built focal point to these geographical reference points.
Villa Quiligotti and Courtyard-House Architecture
In Coloretta, you can admire Villa Quiligotti. It is a historic courtyard house with a courtyard paved with sandstone slabs. The living quarters are on the first floor and are accessed via a loggia with an exterior staircase. A loggia is a covered part of a building that is open to the outside; at the villa, it provides access to the living quarters. This makes it possible to trace the courtyard-house form through specific features: the courtyard paving, the upper living area and its external access. If you are interested in architecture, these details offer a clearly defined view of the complex.
San Rocco and Local History
The Church of San Rocco has a plastered façade facing a small square. In a niche behind the choir is a precious 17th-century marble sculpture of the Madonna di Loreto. The sculpture’s location inside the church is therefore clearly distinct from the façade facing the square. If you would like to see the Madonna, check in advance whether the church interior is open to visitors. The Oratorio di San Rocco in Coloretta was elevated to the status of an independent parish in 1920.
Coloretta’s former role as a summer destination is also part of the village’s history: until the 1970s/1980s of the 19th century, Coloretta was a popular destination for summer stays, particularly for visitors from neighboring Liguria.
Routes and Getting There
A route description published in 2010 leads from Monte Favà to Coloretta via a direct mule track; much of its original paving often remains. A mule track is a pack-animal trail, so the description identifies both the type of path and the direction. From Coloretta, an old direct path leads towards the Church of Castello; its final section is still recognizable. The route directions can be distinguished by their direction: from Monte Favà to Coloretta, or from Coloretta towards Castello. Check the current condition of the paths before setting out.
A municipal planning document from 2014 included Coloretta in local public transport connections to and from Pontremoli and named ATN. For your specific journey, check current timetables and operators.
