Scandicci offers several distinct starting points for planning a trip: a network of marked hiking trails, outdoor art, architectural and cultural history, and a tram connection between Villa Costanza and Careggi. First, consider which of these focuses best matches your trip. You can then plan around hiking, culture or transport and search for a hotel with a specific idea in mind.

Hiking Trails and Outdoor Art

The CAI Scandicci hiking trail network comprises twelve marked trails numbered 730 to 740, including connecting trail 732A. The trails have horizontal and vertical signage and are considered well maintained. Within this network, trail 730 can be identified by two specific features: it connects Lastra a Signa with Tavarnuzze, and paved sections are kept to a minimum. This lets you distinguish the overview of the entire trail network from a named route with clearly defined endpoints.

The Parco Museo Poggio Valicaia offers a different focus. This open-air museum features contemporary art installations and sculptures, including works by Dario Bartolini, Italo Zuffi, Maria Dompé, Paolo Staccioli and Valentino Moradei. This gives you a distinct art focus for your trip alongside the marked hiking trails.

Cultural Sites and History

Castello dell’Acciaiolo, also known as Acciaiolo, is a monumental complex comprising a historic villa, park and garden. It has also been designated a cultural asset of particular importance under Law 1089/39. Its architecture and protected status make a visit here different in focus from the contemporary works at Parco Museo Poggio Valicaia.

At the Abbazia di San Salvatore e San Lorenzo a Settimo, the work of Cistercian monks from the 13th century to the end of the 18th century shaped its present-day architectural appearance. The abbey is considered one of the most important Benedictine complexes in Tuscany. The Chiesa di San Martino alla Palma offers another connection to the cultural landscape: it stands in the hills of Romola, in a hilly area shaped by olive and wine production.

The GAMPS geopaleontological museum is housed in the former primary school in Badia a Settimo, within the Centro Civico Ofelia Mangini. This unusual setting distinguishes the museum from the historic buildings and open-air art installations. A seasonal cultural highlight is Open City – Scandicci Estate: the summer program has been running since 2004 and features events from June to September in squares and outdoor spaces in Scandicci and its districts.

Getting There via Villa Costanza

If you are arriving by car, Villa Costanza parking is accessible via the A1 motorway and the Villa Costanza exit. This exit is between the Scandicci and Firenze Impruneta toll booths. The tram stop is outside the parking area, just a few steps from the security gate at the entrance and exit area. Line T1 runs between Villa Costanza and Careggi, with 26 stops in the municipalities of Scandicci and Florence. This gives you different starting points for planning: motorway access at the parking area and a tram connection with named endpoints.
