Discover Tallini: Nature, Trails and Culture
Accommodation in Tallini
Tallini is the starting point of an E-bike loop to the Riserva di Sant’Antonio and the destination of a hiking route. Details on distance, elevation gain and route help you assess different tour profiles. The municipality of Reggello also offers nature and cultural attractions, including the Balze protected area and Vallombrosa Abbey.
Routes to and from Tallini
An E-bike loop published by a user and recorded in October 2025 starts in Tallini and leads to the Riserva di Sant’Antonio. It is 34.62 kilometres long and includes 1,105 metres of elevation gain. Check the trail conditions and track quality before setting out.
The Reggello/Cascia–Pian di Scò hiking route offers a different profile and is rated easy: it runs for 6.7 kilometres, with 170 metres of elevation gain, and leads to Tallini. Compared with the E-bike loop, it is much shorter and has less elevation gain; the tours also differ in mode of travel and route. Check the route details and local trail conditions before hiking.
Another route runs from Tallini along Via Tallini/Via Alessandro Manzoni towards San Giovenale. Sentiero 33 passes through wooded terrain. These details provide specific trail names to help you find your way, but do not replace checking current conditions before your tour.
Nature in the municipality of Reggello
Vallombrosa Forest has been a biogenetic nature reserve since 1977. It welcomes hikers and school groups for environmental education activities. The Vallombrosa Botanical Garden contains around 250 herbaceous species found locally. They are grouped by habitat and represent a large proportion of the species found in the reserve.
Another protected area is the Balze: it is designated as an A.N.P.I.L. and included in Tuscany’s regional register of protected areas. Every year, the municipality of Reggello organises outings and initiatives to help nature enthusiasts get to know the area better. As these activities are organised annually, check the dates before travelling.
Above Reggello lies the Foresta di Sant’Antonio, with 18 kilometres of marked trails maintained by the Club Alpino Italiano. The forest is also home to the Capanna delle Guardie, which can accommodate around ten people. If you are considering staying overnight, check local conditions and availability in advance.
Culture and architectural history
Vallombrosa Abbey is a minor basilica and an Italian national monument. Its building history dates back to 1036, when work began on the masonry cells and the oratory. These details provide two specific points of reference for the history of the complex, without presupposing how construction proceeded later.
The Museo Masaccio d’Arte Sacra preserves paintings from the Florentine school, silverware and ecclesiastical objects. The collection also includes precious liturgical vestments dating from the 15th to the 20th century. The museum also houses the Trittico di San Giovenale; the date 23 April 1422 is inscribed along its lower edge as the date of execution.
Tallini itself also has an architectural landmark: in several buildings, the original volumetric layout and exposed brickwork are considered valuable features.
Products from the municipality
Extra virgin olive oil and Zolfino beans are presented as local products in the municipality of Reggello. This adds regional food to the area’s nature and cultural attractions. If you choose Tallini as your starting point, you can plan the route profiles described here separately from the other attractions in Reggello.
