Partina combines an elevated riverside setting with a history reflected in its castle, churches and chapels. A cycling and walking trail starts by the Archiano, and Ravioli di Partina are part of the local cuisine. These different themes can help you decide whether Partina matches the focus of your trip.

Riverside setting and a trail from Partina

Partina sits on high ground by the Rimaggio stream, just above its confluence with the Archiano River. The town is therefore shaped by two bodies of water: the Rimaggio and the Archiano, into which it flows. The Bonconte da Montefeltro cycling and walking trail begins on the left bank of the Torrente Archiano. If you would like to include a cycling or walking activity in your travel plans, you will find a clearly identified starting point here. As trail conditions can change, it is advisable to check the latest situation before setting out.

The castle and historic buildings

Partina grew up around an old castle, documented in written records since 1095. The year refers to the castle’s documentary mention. Some original parts have survived and remain visible. Both the settlement’s early history and its surviving architectural features offer clues to Partina’s past.

Villa Rosa Scoti is also part of Partina’s historic character: it is a grand villa. The chapel of Santa Rita was restored and donated to the municipality of Bibbiena. Together with the castle, the villa and chapel show that the town’s history encompasses different types of buildings. The former Museo di Partina closed in 2010; its collections were transferred.

Pievi and ecclesiastical history

The remains of the Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta have been documented since 1005 and are considered among the most significant pievi in the Casentino. Today, the remains are incorporated into a farmhouse. In the 18th century, the pieve lost its title and was deconsecrated. These events belong to different phases of its history: the early documentation was followed by the loss of its title and its deconsecration.

The church of San Biagio followed a different course. It began as an oratory and was elevated to a pieve in the 18th century. For San Biagio, this century therefore marks its elevation to a pieve, while the Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta lost its title during the same period. This comparison helps distinguish the histories of the two buildings without conflating them into a single development.

Cycling and walking trail and local cuisine

The Bonconte da Montefeltro trail offers a different focus from the historic buildings: it connects the name Partina with opportunities for cycling and walking. Together with the location by the Archiano, this gives the trip a connection to the surrounding landscape without conflating the trail with the town’s architectural history.

Ravioli di Partina are part of the local cuisine. The village women roll out the dough by hand. This culinary craft is a distinct aspect of the town alongside its buildings and trail. If you are interested in regional food culture, you can include this dish in your exploration of local traditions; its preparation is not described as an activity for visitors.

Considering Partina as a destination

When looking for a hotel in Partina, it may help to first decide what you want to focus on during your trip: the history of the castle and pieve, a cycling or walking activity, or the local cuisine. These themes offer different reasons to include Partina in your travel plans. You can then assess specific hotel offers based on what suits your own plans.
